Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials were in Lexington Tuesday, looking for individuals. ICE spokesman Tim Counts said the agents are looking for "specific targeted individuals who are in violation of law", but declined to elaborate further. Counts said the agency would have additional information later. Counts said the operation was being conducted by ICE agents and law enforcement officers. Counts would not say where the agents were focusing their searches or how many individuals they were looking for. Lexington police were unaware of what type of operation the federal agents were conducting. Nebraska Mexican American Commission Executive Director Cecelia Olivarez Huerta told the Rural Radio Network that the agents conducted a small-scale operation to find specific individuals. Huerta said "they are most likely looking for people who have a deportation date and did not leave by that date." Huerta says in most cases, the agents probably know where the individuals live and may also have gone to homes to pick them up. A source indicates ICE agents also went to the Tyson meatpacking plant Monday night or Tuesday, but was unaware whether individuals were removed. The Tyson plant employs more than 2,300 people.
