ICE deports illegal alien to face murder charges in Mexico

WASHINGTON - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Thursday deported Jose Abel Sanchez who was wanted on murder charges in Mexico. Sanchez, a Mexican national, was turned over to authorities in Mexico City.

Sanchez is accused of shooting and killing his girlfriend, Maribel Soriano-Hernandez, on March 21, 2004 in Mexico. He was the subject of a 2004 arrest warrant issued by the First Instance Court of Pacho Viejo, Veracruz, Mexico, for aggravated murder. On behalf of the Mexican government, INTERPOL issued a "Red notice" to authorities around the world in 2008.

On Feb. 26, 2010, the Anderson County Sheriff's Office in Anderson, S.C., arrested Sanchez for drunken driving. Routine fingerprint and record checks revealed he was wanted in Mexico.

ICE agents took custody of Sanchez at the Anderson County Detention Center. He admitted entering the United States illegally in 2004. He was placed into removal proceedings and an immigration judge ordered him removed to Mexico.
