Denver ICE officers deport fugitive wanted by Mexico
DENVER, Colo. — An immigration fugitive from Mexico who is wanted in his home country was removed Tuesday by deportation officers with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO).
Ezequiel Sandoval-Garcia, 34, is wanted by the country of Mexico.
"Removing foreign fugitives from our communities and ultimately from the United States is an ICE priority," said John Fabbricatore, field office director for ERO Denver. "ICE routinely removes fugitives from the United States so they can face justice in their home country."
On April 18, 2018, Sandoval entered the United States near Laredo, Texas, without having been admitted or paroled by an immigration officer. He was given an expedited removal and returned to Mexico five days later.
The Judicial District of Tlaxiaco, Oaxaca, Mexico issued an arrest warrant for Sandoval June 14, 2018.
Sandoval reentered the United States at an unknown place and time and was encountered by ERO May 18, 2020, while being held by the Denver Justice Center on charges of simple assault. He was transferred to ICE custody and remained in the Aurora Contract Detention Center awaiting his removal to Mexico.
Sandoval was escorted through the San Ysidro port of entry by the ERO Special Response Team and turned over to the custody of the Mexican Ficalia General de la Republica.
Since Oct. 1, 2009, ERO has removed more than 3,700 foreign fugitives from the United States who were sought in their native countries for serious crimes, including kidnapping, rape and murder.
ICE is focused on removing public safety threats, such as convicted criminal aliens and gang members, as well as individuals who have violated our nation's immigration laws, including those who illegally re-entered the country after being removed and immigration fugitives ordered removed by federal immigration judges.
