Jan. 2, 2014 – South Korean convicted for 2012 Hackettstown school shooting threats

As the result of the combined efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), a South Korean national was convicted by the Korean Military Court for violations of Korean criminal laws for threatening to kill students at Hackettstown High School with an AK-47. DEC 30 (ANCHORAGE, ALASKA)
Today, Joel Santana-Pierna and Abel Santana-Pierna, citizens of the Dominican Republic residing in Alaska, were sentenced to 135 months and 72 months imprisonment, respectively, for their roles in masterminding and perpetrating large drug trafficking and tax fraud conspiracies.

Department of Justice Takes Steps to Strengthen Federal Background Check System for Firearms Transfers
Friday, January 3, 2014
The Department of Justice today announced it is proposing a regulation that will clarify who, due to mental health reasons, is prohibited under federal law from receiving, possessing, shipping or transporting firearms. In addition to providing general guidance on the federal law, this clarification will help states determine what information may be appropriately shared with the federal background check system for firearms transfers – the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) – in order to keep guns out of the hands of individuals who may be a danger to themselves or others.
