Undocumented Workers Sent Back To Mexico

Idaho City, Idaho -- An Oregon-based contractor accused of hiring illegal aliens from Mexico may face criminal charges.

The immigrants were hired to replant trees after the 2003 Hot Creek Fire in Idaho City.

On Tuesday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, raided Cutting Edge Forestry Inc., and arrested 14 undocumented employees.

The workers were replanting the last 500 acres where that fire burned. The bust comes as part of the agency's investigation into worksite violations.

"What ICE is doing is focusing its efforts on bringing criminal charges against employers who are knowingly breaking immigration laws and hiring their illegal alien workers," said ICE spokeswoman Gail Montenegro.

The undocumented workers were taken to the Ada County jail Tuesday.
