    Just wondering of Obama will show for the march. He's participated in the past but it may be too controversial this year.

    Not to worry TexasBorn, I have a plan. You didn't think I was going to let this tidbit of intercepted intel go unused. It's already been emailed to the ICE office, and I know a Chicago Cop on the South side. And I just may ask him to do me a favor.

    Also here is a person named Rosi, preparing a statement for the press.
    (And still More Demands)

    ------------------------------------------

    Rosi: In relation with the call you are making, it is important to follow
    the demands developed in the flyer.
    WHAT ARE THE MARCHERS' DEMANDS?
    You wrote:

    The same as last year: Legalization for undocumented workers, full
    rights to all workers, stop the raids and deportations, stop criminalization
    of immigrant workers, full access to healthcare and education.

    * We demand legalization for all
    * Stops raids and deportation, stop criminalization of immigrants
    * Equal access to education and universal health care

    We have some issue that are forgotten in your call
    * Equal rights for all workers
    * End occupation of Iraq
    * For the right to unionize, Employee Free Choice Act
    * Fair wages

    It is crucial to understand that we do not have the same demands as last year only, but that we have improved and have a more comprehensive view of our struggle.

    * The immigrants are part of the working class of this country; our struggle is embedded with the rest of the workers of this country. Workers’ rights for all, with its corollary of equal rights for immigrant workers It is important not just the struggle to defend the rights of immigrants, but more broadly of fight to defend the interest of all workers whatever race or immigration status. United and raise the conditions of all.

    * That today we are fighting for the right to unionize. Unions are decreasing. Only 13 % of the working class is working under a contract. Instead of fortifying working class organizations, there is the national and international tendency to create non-profit organizations, which try to substitute labor organizations.

    * We rather, strategically, fight for the Employee Free Choice Act, which would give to all workers a free and fair choice to improve their lives by forming unions.

    * End of occupation of Iraq. The Movimiento 10 de Marzo (Movement on March 10) has united to the rest of the country to denounce the occupation of Iraq as well as we demand to stop the war. We link the issue in how is affecting our immigrant youth and our families.

    * Finally, our march is part of a bigger picture: More than ever, we need to reclaim May 1st as a worker's day. It is not only for immigrant workers, we are not separated; we are part of the fabric of the working class. To reclaim our day for all workers gives us the opportunity to unify the struggle. To recover, to reconstruct, to revitalize the labor movement. We want to recover May Day.

    Some of the Chicago organizers are not to happy with Mayor Daley, or at least his body guards. That is biting the hand that feeds you.

    Folks

    The May 2007 press access to the Grant Park main stage was chaotic, very disorganized, and very disappointing.

    I personally saw journalists being turned away near the main stage area. One reporter who has covered all of the marches was turned away. This reporter files reports directly to Mexico for their newspapers, websites, he was not allowed access.

    the frustration on his face cannot be described. I can only describe him as having a heavy mustache, glasses, always with one or two cameras swing from his body

    He photographed my hand-made poster in the march to Batavia at the La Villita stop in 2006 by the Arco.

    More of the same frustration on the way for 2008??

    Maybe Mayor Daley should get new, more cooperative, bodyguards. Or they should rent the Popemobile whenever he's at public events. Or, if not, let him stay home on May 1. His bodyguards absolutely cannot be allowed disrupt the event, let the speakers speak, let the speakers get on stage, let reporters report. If they can't cooperate, Daley and his entourage should be disinvited, let him watch it on TV. Or do a video hookup, where he can do his political speech from the safety of his home or 5th floor office.

    en lucha,
