A Peruvian national, who police say was involved in the deaths of two illegal immigrants, was arrested Wednesday in Miami, authorities said. Several other illegal aliens were also arrested across the country this week.

Eduard Cornejo-Saavedra, 43, was arrested at Miami International Airport and charged with the deaths of Mexican citizens Tarcisio Casas-Blanco and Jose Aurelio Quiroz-Casas in August of 2014.

Casas-Blanco and Quiroz-Casas both died in the trunk of a Dodge Challenger at the San Diego-Tijuana border while being smuggled across into the U.S., driven there by one Nicholas George Zakov.

Zakov previously pleaded guilty to the smuggling charges and was sentenced to seven years in federal prison last month.

Cornejo-Saavedra has now been charged in the same incident and was hit with two counts of encouraging and inducing illegal aliens resulting in death and two counts of bringing illegal aliens into the United States for financial gain. He could get life in prison if convicted.

Meanwhile, in Idaho, an illegal immigrant was sentenced to ten years for trafficking heroin.

Andres Avila, 34, pleaded guilty to the charges in September after being apprehended during a routine traffic stop last April. Avila was found with 201 grams of heroin, worth an estimated $60,000 on the street.

Avila will be deported back to Mexico after his 10-year sentence is served.

In other arrests, several Mexican nationals were arrested, sentenced to up to six months in prison, and ordered deported for illegal re-entry into the U.S.

Arrested and sentenced were Mexican citizens, Jesus Fragoso-Guarneros, Sergio Miranda-Velazquez, Jesus Gomez-Valle, as well as Roman Palma-Flores of Honduras.
