Man arrested for threatening person with knife


NEWBURGH – A Newburgh man has been charged with attempted assault in the second degree and other charges after he tried to attack another man with a knife, police said.

Newburgh City Police officers were patrolling on Halloween evening and saw Belkyn Mendoza-Zepada, 23, standing in front of another man and walking towards him with a knife in his hand.

Police approached Zepada and ordered him to drop the knife, which he refused to do so one officer kicked it out of his hand with his foot and another officer subdued him.

Zepada was later identified as a man with an active warrant out for him for criminal mischief and an active administrative warrant from Immigration and Naturalization Services.

He was also charged with menacing in the second degree and criminal mischief on the old warrant.
