U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested an illegal alien in upstate New York who crossed the Rio Grande River about a year ago.
Agents assigned to the Buffalo Station were called to assist a police officer from the town of Perry, New York. The police officer was investigating an abandoned vehicle when he encountered two people he suspected of being illegal immigrants, according to information obtained by Breitbart Texas from U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials.

The agents identified the two individuals as being illegally present in the United States. One of the illegal aliens, Eliaquin Abilder Aguilar-Roblero, age 22, stated he had entered the U.S. illegally by crossing the Rio Grande River in December 2015.

Agents identified the second person, Francisco Javier Roblero-Bravo, age 20, as having entered the U.S. legally with an agricultural visa on May 2, 2016. The records check revealed the migrant worker would be employed at a farm in Waycross, Georgia, officials reported. Instead of leaving the country when his visa expired in July, Roblero-Bravo moved to Perry to work on a farm.

The Perry police officer was investigating the two men for possible alcohol-related violations, CBP officials stated. The officer called the Border Patrol for assistance when he became suspicious of their immigration status.

Immigrants who enter the U.S. legally but overstay their visas are estimated to make up about 40 percent of the approximately 11 million illegal immigrants living in the U.S., according to a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) report detailed in a USA Today article earlier this year.

“The successful collaboration between the men and women of the Buffalo Border Patrol Station and local law enforcement is important to securing our communities, and allowing us a safer place to live,” Patrol-Agent-In-Charge of the Buffalo Border Patrol Station, Jeffrey Wilson, said in a written statement.

The suspects were detained by Border Patrol agents and turned over to DHS officials for possible removal proceedings.
