An illegal alien from Colombia pleaded guilty Wednesday to using a stolen birth certificate and Social Security card to obtain identification cards in Monroe.

Jimmy Hurtado, 35, of Colombia, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Terry A. Doughty to one count of falsely representing to be a citizen of the United States, one count of false representation and use of a Social Security number, and one count of aggravated identity theft.

According to the guilty plea, Hurtado used the identity of a United States citizen from Puerto Rico in 2010 to obtain a state-issued identification card from the Monroe Department of Public Safety office.

He supplied a birth certificate and a Social Security number. He renewed the identification card in 2011 and 2012 and obtained a driver’s license using the same documents he used to obtain the state-issued identification card.

Hurtado faces up to three years in prison for the false representation count, five years in prison for the Social Security count, and a mandatory two years in prison for the identity theft count, which is to run consecutively to sentences of the other two counts. He also faces three years of supervised release and a $250,000 fine.
