Victor Garcia, left, and Jose Alberto Chavollo have been arrested in an attempted kidnapping near TCU on Saturday. FORT WORTH – Two men were arrested after police said they attempted to kidnap a woman near Texas Christian University, and authorities say they believe the men may be responsible for other attempted kidnappings in the TCU area.

Jose Alberto Chavollo, 19, was in the Mansfield Jail as of Monday afternoon facing charges of aggravated kidnapping, evading arrest and possession of a controlled substance. His bail was set at $31,000. Victor Garcia, 23, remained in the Mansfield Jail Monday on an immigration hold. He was also facing a charge of aggravated kidnapping.

Police were dispatched to the 3100 block of Greene Avenue about 3 a.m. Saturday after receiving a report that a woman had been hit in the head, Lt. Paul Henderson, a police spokesman, said in a news release.

According to the victim and witnesses, the victim and some friends were walking east in the 2900 block of West Berry Street when they decided to cut through a parking lot near the 3100 block of Greene Avenue. The victim was walking ahead of her friends when she rounded a corner and was out of view, according to the news release.

When the victim’s friends turned the corner a short time later, they saw her on the ground and a man was on top of her, hitting her in the head. The victim's friends confronted the suspect, who fled in a black Tahoe occupied by a second man.

The witnesses were able to get the license plate number and give it to police.

While the victim was being treated at Harris Methodist Fort Worth hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, a Fort Worth police officer driving north on University Drive at Vickery Boulevard saw a black Chevrolet Tahoe with the same license plate number. The officer followed the vehicle and attempted to stop it in the 3400 block of Clover.

As the officer approached the vehicle and ordered the driver and passenger to show their hands, the driver sped off.

The suspect led officers on a pursuit through the neighborhood. In the 4600 block of Driskell Boulevard, the driver and passenger bailed out of the Tahoe and fled on foot. Officers apprehended the passenger, identified as Chavollo, and took him into custody.

Garcia was arrested on a warrant about 8:50 p.m. that night in the 6800 block of Chickering Road.

Police say they believe the two men are connected with other attempted kidnappings in the TCU area. The investigation is ongoing.

2 men caught trying to kidnap women near TCU

04:20 PM CDT on Monday, September 3, 2007

    By JIM DOUGLAS / WFAA-TV

    DMN.
Fort Worth Police Chief Ralph Mendoza - police caught the suspects. FORT WORTH - Two men suspected of repeatedly trying to kidnap young women near TCU have been locked up thanks to alert citizens and a quick police response.

Civilians rescued would-be victims, then helped police track down the suspects after two kidnapping attempts early Saturday morning.

Naomi Ayala had just parked in her West Fort Worth driveway in the 3100 block of Greene Avenue.

It was about 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning.

A man pulled her door open.

"He had a knife in one hand and he was saying come with me," she said.

Ayala screamed for her boyfriend, who was in the house.

"He kept coming closer and closer with the knife. I just started screaming for my boyfriend, Chris... It was one of those fight or flight moments and I was definitely going to fight."

Chris Crawford heard the screams above the noise of a video game.

"By the time I was here, the second scream happened, then I opened the door," he said.

By that time the attacker had a blade to Ayala's neck.

"He got this close. Right up to my throat," she said.

"So as I came out, the first guy I saw was at the passenger side," Crawford said.

    He could see two men.

He rushed them, an adrenaline-charged 6'3", 230 pounds.

The men jumped into their still running SUV.

"I opened the door and tried to grab one. They peeled out."

Together, Crawford and Ayala gave police a vehicle description and license plate number.

Just 30 minutes later, police got the same information from a call on Greene Avenue near TCU.

Witnesses there chased off a man who was beating a 21-year-old woman and trying to drag her into a black SUV.

Police later spotted the SUV and eventually captured Jose Chavollo and Victor Garcia.

A huge relief for Naomi Ayala.

"I'd rather get injured trying to defend myself than get taken. Maybe killed."

This could have ended in the needless death of two more young Americans.

I would like to be on the Jury
