Illegal immigrant booked in accidental death of motorcyclist

DENHAM SPRINGS – A motorcyclist died Wednesday night in a collision with a vehicle driven by an illegal immigrant, Police Chief Scott Jones said.

Jones identified the victim as Brett J. Lantz, 44, of 13653 Dunlap Hall Road, Walker.

Officers booked Ismael Rico, 26, of 369 S. Muscarello, Hammond, on negligent homicide, illegal presence in the United States, driving without lawful presence in the United States and failure to yield from a private drive.

Rico, who was driving a sport utility vehicle, exited a business in the 1300 block of U.S. 190 and struck the eastbound vehicle around 8:20 p.m., Lt. Steve Kistler said.
