Man poisoned in store parking lot
By Evan Belanger
The Cullman Times
A woman described by Cullman Police as an illegal immigrant is in jail this week after allegedly poisoning a local man in the Wal-Mart parking lot.
Blanca Sifuentes, 29, was arrested last week after allegedly poisoning a Cullman man with an insecticide-laced drink.
Police declined to release the victim’s name, but said he survived the poisoning after spending days in the care of Woodland Medical Center.
Police Capt. Max Bartlett, said the two were acquaintances, both former potato farmers, but he declined to release a motive for the alleged poisoning.
He said Sifuentes apparently gave the man the poisoned drink last Tuesday in the Wal-Mart parking lot and drove away immediately after he swallowed some.
While the victim drank only a small amount, he reportedly suffered a burning sensation in his throat, blurred vision, difficulty breathing and an increased heart rate.
According to reports, he was able to drive himself to the parking lot of Fire Mountain Grill, less than a mile from Wal-Mart Alabama Highway 69, before calling his son, who drove him to the emergency room.
“It was kind of nip and tuck there for a while,” Bartlett said. “We weren’t sure he was going to make it.”
According to Bartlett, Sifuentes has confessed to putting a powdered insecticide in the drink, but reports from a state lab showing exactly what kind had not been returned as of Tuesday.
He also said a hold has been placed on Sifuentes’ $10,000 bond since she is an illegal alien. If convicted, she will likely be deported after fulfilling her sentence, according to Bartlett.
Sifuentes’ two children have been taken into custody by the Department of Human Resources.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

Why would you take a drink from a stranger? Seems odd to me.
