Illegal immigrant gets 12 years after attempted shooting

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. An illegal immigrant who lived in North Carolina has been sentenced to more than a dozen years in federal prison.
Twenty-two-year-old Emilio Sanchez Jose had pleaded guilty to having drugs and using a handgun in a drug crime.

What authorities say Jose did was point a gun at officers and pull the trigger several times. The gun didn't fire. Government witness Melanie Mills testified that she heard "three distinct clicks" as Jose pointed his weapon at two men who had identified themselves as policemen.

The Veracruz, Mexico, native was arrested in March of last year by the Third Judicial District Drug Task Force.

A police video played in court Monday showed marijuana being taken from one car and put into another in a fast-food restaurant parking lot just before officers moved in to make arrests.
