McALLEN — A Border Patrol agent shot a suspected illegal immigrant after an altercation in a Kingsville convenience store Wednesday.
It was not immediately clear whether the man was armed.
The agent, who was not identified, chased the man into the store after he and other people ran from a vehicle the Border Patrol was pursuing around 8 a.m., said Border Patrol spokesman John Lopez.
The agent has more than five years’ experience with the agency, Lopez said.
Inside the store, the immigrant fought the agent’s attempts to detain him and the agent “found it necessary to shoot to stop the altercation,â€

KINGSVILLE - A Mexican national who was shot by a Border Patrol agent earlier this month in Kingsville has been released from the hospital.
The 34-year-old suspected illegal immigrant has now been transferred to federal custody pending a hearing.
Investigators said he was shot during a struggle with the agent who was trying to arrest him. That shooting is still under investigation.
