Illegal immigration: Goon Squads to protect the lawbreakers?

In the name of "tolerance," some of those protecting illegal immigration are becoming most intolerantly violent.

In Maryland, a leader of the Minutemen group that fights illegal immigration was attacked with a laser pointer earlier this month as he photographed employers hiring workers at a day laborers gathering place that provides jobs for illegal immigrants.

Stephen Schreiman, director of the Maryland chapter of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps, says the assault came as he was photographing workers and employers at the site. The Washington Post says he filed a report with the police after suffering a headache for 10 hours.

This is going on in Montgomery County, Maryland (Washington suburbs) — home of this writer. The implications are beyond local interest, which is why I am hereby taking it national. The story indicates that the left-wing (which encourages illegal immigration in a deliberate attempt to buy votes in a future bilingual society) has decided that using the ACLU lawyers to fight its battles in court may not be adequate. The lawbreakers appear to be moving toward violence to shut up anyone who tries to uphold the law. And yes, it is in fact against the law to sneak across this country's borders without valid paperwork.

And violence, of course, begets violence. Chris Core, talk-show host on Washington's WMAL-AM, noted that CASA of Maryland, the pro-illegal immigration group, has now threatened to follow the kids of the Minutemen to their schools. Core says the natural reaction of any parent toward anyone harassing, threatening, or following his kids would be to go after that person "with a baseball bat."

CASA Executive Director Gustavo Torres says photographing the Minutemen is only "the first step."

"Then we are going to picket their houses and the schools of their kids, and their work...to let people know they are extremists, that they are anti-immigrant," Torres said.

Now stop and go back over that quote once again. What CASA is saying is that if you uphold the law and believe we are a nation of laws, you are an "extremist." Got that? On the other hand, if you break the law, why you're just as mainstream American as apple pie.

CASA is also saying that if you are against breaking the law, you are "anti-immigrant" per se. Got that? Never mind that the Minutemen don't object to legal immigrants. Forget the laws that supposedly apply to all of us. The lawbreakers are in charge here. And don't you forget it.

If you think that's overstating the case, note this word from an elected public servant sworn to uphold the law.

"The good news is that these Minutemen are yet another in a long line of fringe groups that will die of their own weight in Montgomery County because they don't speak for Montgomery County." That from County Councilman Tom Perez. Got that? Only "fringe groups" entertain such wacky ideas as supporting the law. Again, the lawbreakers are in charge here. And don't you forget it.

And furthermore, you peon taxpayers are going to pay for the lawbreaking. You will put up and shut up. The Washington Times says CASA of Maryland "receives about 51 percent of its $3.6 million annual budget from public sources, such as county governments."

CASA has since backed off its threat to take its anger out on the Minutemen's kids. CASA spokeswoman Kim Propeack now says, "I would not say that we are going after their kids...but their homes and businesses are OK." You are earnestly urged to believe that negative public reaction has nothing to do with its "revised" policy. Torres's threat to follow kids to school, you see, was a "misstatement." Sure.

CASA uses the old "sauce for the goose-sauce for the gander" argument. i.e.-If they photograph and picket us, we will photograph and picket them.

Here is the difference, discernable to all but those unfamiliar with the basics of Civics 101:

The Minutemen who are photographing and videotaping employers hiring workers at day laborer sites are engaged in totally legal actions, aimed at stopping actions that are totally illegal. For the difference between the meaning of "legal" and "illegal," one may consult a dictionary in any language. It is not rocket science.

The Minutemen plan to report those who hire illegal aliens to state and federal authorities for taxing and business licensing violations. It is not intended to harass the illegal aliens themselves who are being taken advantage of by the law-breaking employers. The business owners don't have to pay taxes or provide benefits. The illegal workers' options? Put up and shut up, lest they be deported. Some of those who back this invitation to the making of indentured servants have also been known to do their fair share of hypocritical hollering about "workers' rights."

The political climate in Montgomery County ranges from liberal to ultra-liberal. Within the county there is what has been informally dubbed (and not without reason) "the People's Republic of Takoma Park," site of one of CASA's day laborer centers. Takoma Park — otherwise known as "Berkeley-East," is a "Sanctuary City." Takoma Park law prohibits anyone in the local government, including the police, from cooperating or assisting with federal probes or arrests involving federal immigration laws.

'That's a blatantly criminal act, as far as I'm concerned," Schreiman told the Wheaton Gazette. "That means they're aiding and abetting the transport and hiring of illegals, if they refuse to cooperate." Hey, doesn't he get the message? The lawbreakers are in charge here, and don't you forget it.

Councilman Perez says enforcing immigration law is a federal responsibility and if the Minutemen don't like it, they can take a 20 minute Metrorail ride to Capitol Hill and talk to their congressmen and senators.

Yes, they can do that. As a matter of fact, the House has passed a good first step in dealing with the illegal immigrant problem. The Senate may be on the verge of killing it, and your senators need to hear from you. They should be urged to pass the Sensenbrenner Bill — H.R.-4437. For details on the legislation, you can do a Google search.

Perez is engaging in a classic case of passing the buck. He would oppose the Sensebrenner bill if he were in Congress. But Americans can run and chew gum at the same time. Citizen action on this issue is important on the local, state, and federal levels. And the time for action is now.

They are Helping us, doing things like this, and that BS of WeareRacist. Keep it up, just keep showing your true thoughts. The American People are surely waking up and behold. Your group is finished, no more Funds for you. I am sure that Our Patriots, has turned this over to the District Attorney and the State GAO. Shut them down, Tax payers money is not to be used for any of this.
