Crowds rallied against Georgia's immigration law outside the State Capitol this past Spring.

ATLANTA -- A new state law takes effect next week which aims to deter illegal immigrants from coming to Georgia by making it harder for them to find work.

Starting Monday, employers with 500 or more employees must use the E-Verify federal database to check the eligibility of potential hires.

The new rule will affect smaller businesses starting July 1, when employers with more than 100 workers must use the database. Companies with more than 10 employees must use E-Verify starting July 2013.
