Seeking donations:Santa Ana resident Gloria Montiel, 23, achieved part of her childhood dream by graduating with a bachelor's degree from Harvard University in 2009.

Montiel – an undocumented immigrant from Guerrero, Mexico – now seeks to fulfill the second part: obtaining a graduate degree from the university so that she can one day teach Santa Ana school children.


Gloria Montiel, of Santa Ana, is an illegal immigrant who got her undergrad degree from Harvard. She is seeking help to pay the money it will take to get her master's degree there. "If someday kids can see themselves in me, then everything I've worked for is repaid at that moment," she said.

Montiel says she's been accepted to Harvard's Graduate School of Education and will need $50,000 to pay for her studies. Because she lacks a Social Security number, she can't qualify for most types of financial aid. She says she's secured an $11,000 grant from the school, and is trying to collect the remaining $39,000.

To raise the money, the Santa Ana High School graduate is making and selling tamales, selling items with the Harvard logo and soliciting donations from Santa Ana residents and Harvard alumni.

"I will knock on the doors of 39,000 houses and ask them for $1 each if I have to," she said. "If someday kids can see themselves in me, then everything I've worked for is repaid at that moment."

I am positive President Calderon will help with her fees, I'm sure he will want her to teach in Mexico once she finishes her studies. Has she written him, I wonder?

How about daughter of Kansas farmer seeking college tuition dollars to attend UCLA? Is willing to sell Swedish pastries and German sausages door to door. Also would like donations from professors teaching multi-cultural classes at UCLA. Needs $54,000 for first year.

She has gotten free K-12 at citizen expense a Harvard undergrad degree when fourteen other student applicants were turned down and the selfish sinverguenza still has not accepted her responsibilities as an adfulkt and gone back to Guerrero.

Okay ICE, you know who she is and where she is located. Now do your darn job and go get her. This one should be easy, she isn't even holding out in a church.

This is the nexus of our immigration problem: Most young people aspire to, even if they don't obtain, a professional career----and not to one where they concretely produce items of tangible value. Therefore we keep importing people who will do that---(even if a lot of them are doing jobs that could be replaced with labor saving devices). While business expansion---including the stock market---would benefit from unlimited immigration---in conjunction with unlimited entrance to the professional careers as well---the downside is that our infrastructure will be perpetually strained and in need of continual upgrading. Local communities where the population grows will have to grapple with constant planning headaches.

ILLEGALS now replace innocent American students in the limited seats in college at a time when over 10% of Americans are out of work and their families are struggling to train for new jobs and pay for college. Why would you support this PRO-ILLEGAL Santa Ana Education Project’s organization that will attract more ILLEGALS to America and train ILLEGALS for jobs it is illegal for them to have. These students should go back to their HOME countries and stop draining our resources that could be used to assist United States Citizens and not the ILLEGALS! Just follow the money!
