Ariz. Dem blasts Obama immigration lawsuit
    01:49 PM

Even before the Obama administration's much-anticipated lawsuit against Arizona's controversial crackdown on illegal immigration has been filed, reaction is pouring in from the state's lawmakers. Among those first out of the box with a negative review: a freshman Democratic member of Congress.

Not surprisingly, Arizona's two Republican senators are sharply critical. Here's an excerpt from the joint statment just issued by Jon Kyl, the GOP's deputy Senate leader, and John McCain, President Obama's 2008 opponent in the race for the White House:

Attorney General Holder speaks of the "federal government's responsibility" to enforce immigration laws; but what are the people of Arizona left to do when the federal government fails in its responsibility?

The Obama administration has not done everything it can do to protect the people of Arizona from the violence and crime illegal immigration brings to our state. Until it does, the federal government should not be suing Arizona on the grounds that immigration enforcement is solely a federal responsibility.
An equally sharp rebuke comes from Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick. She's a first-term Democrat who represents a sprawling northern Arizona district and who serves on the House Homeland Security Committee. Here's what she had to say:

This lawsuit is a sideshow, distracting us from the real task at hand. A court battle between the federal government and Arizona will not move us closer to securing the border or fixing America's broken immigration system. The legal fights and boycotts are drawing focus and attention away from what has to be a policy-driven, substantive debate.

Washington failed us on this issue again today, and Arizonans have had enough. The White House and Congress need to start developing a better approach to border security and immigration reform, working with us instead of against us. Our law enforcement and communities are at risk right now -- this is a time for solutions, not new obstacles.
Kirkpatrick is running for a second term in a district that McCain won by 10 percentage points in 2008. Non-partisan political handicappers Charles Cook and Stuart Rothenberg both favor her to win but say her race is not a slam-dunk. In fact, Cook moved her race in March from the "likely Democrat" win category to "lean Democrat" -- indicating a more competitive contest. Republicans will choose their candidate from a crowded field in an Aug. 24 primary.

Update, 3:56 p.m.ET: Rep. Luis Gutierrez, an Illinois Democrat who is his one of his party's leading proponent of immigration reform, thinks the lawsuit is a good idea. Gutierrez, one of a number of Hispanic leaders who has been pushing the president to make good on a campaign promise to push for an immigration bill this year, says it's a sign "that the Obama administration is beginning to fully engage on the immigration issue." Like the president's critics, Gutierrez is calling for a broader solution: "Tripling, quadrupling, or quintupling the manpower on the border hasn't worked," he said in a statement. "Unless we create legal immigration alternatives to illegal immigration, all the Arizona laws in the world will not fix the problem."

Au contraire, says Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky. He thinks the president is putting too much emphasis on providing a path to citizenship for people now living here illegally and not enough on sealing the nation's borders: "If the President wants to make real progress on this issue, he can do so by taking amnesty off the table and focus his efforts on border and interior security," McConnell said in a statement.

AMERICANS SUPPORT SB 1070. THE WHITE HOUSE MUST WORK FOR AMERICANS. THE WHITE HOUSE IS WORKING FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS. THAT WE DO NOT ACCEPT. REMOVE FROM OFFICE ALL THE DEMOCRATS LIKE OBAMA AND HOLDER. WE DO NOT NEED THEM.

Gosh....I heard this news tonight that the feds are suing Arizona. I swear...I think that we are headed right toward American Revolution part II. I also heard on the news that armed militia are heading down there too to protest the citizens.

Why doesn't Arizona sue the federal government for not doing its job?

    It can work both ways.

Obama is going to be hated for this. He will build up such resentment against him that nothing will help him to recover.

On the plus side, I predict more people will join the cause. Those fence sitters that really didn't care much either way about the issues are going to see that Obama is out of line with this law suit. Welcome aboard to those new folks joining the cause.

I remember Gutierrez' bill in 2006 and 2007. Remember this so called representative of the American people only represents illegal aliens. He supported Elvira Arellano, deported for felony identity theft ruining the life of an American citizen, then illegally returned to the country and again used another identity to work in a secure area as an aircraft cleaner.
The same Gutierrez claimed both bills were tough on border security. Like Gutierrez, the bill was a pack of lies and would not have secured the borders. Results are predicated on quantity not quality. He proposed thousands of agents but didn't tell the American people many would be replacing agents who resigned from sheer frustration and disgust because of the previous and this rogue administration's open border policies. There was no metric to gauge the effectiveness of border security by expressing it as a percentage i.e., stating illegal immigration would have to be cut by 95 percent before amnesty is rammed down the American people's throats. Illegal aliens would be subject to a background check which would have to be done within 24 hours by DHS which we know will never be done because many illegal aliens use stolen and fraudulent identities and are from countries where there is no centralized database to track people committing crimes, receiving entitlements and for other purposes.
DHS is corrupt, understaffed, dysfunctional and already has an existing backlog of 8 million legal immigrant prospects. Illegal aliens will receive "z" visas even if the background checks aren't done in the required time frame. Taxpayers will be required to pay for immigration attorneys representing those who are fighting deportation because of crimes. Anyone filing a fraudulent application will not be deported. Supervisors who are or are made aware of derogatory information from subordinates on an application are prohibited from sharing this information with their supervisors or department chiefs. Any DHS employee who violates this decree is subject to a 10,000 dollar fine. Illegal alien felons as rapists, child molesters, MS-13 and others would be granted amnesty.
Don't believe anything Gutierrez says as he does not care about the American people. He never had, does not and never will have the best interests of this country at heart. He only withdrew his retirement in 2008 to run again to carry out his vision of open borders and unlimited illegal immigration (mainly Hispanics) and force the 'American gringos" to pay for illegal alien health care, welfare, education, food stamps, other benefits and take jobs from Americans. Gutierrez does NOT give a horse's ass about suffering, struggling and unemployed Americans losing their homes and are forced to live in tent cities or in the street, nor does he care about Americans murdered, raped, carjacked or victimized by other crimes committed by the never ending hordes of illegal aliens pouring across the wide open borders. To understand this, one only had to listen to the Costner family testifying before his committee because their lives were ruined from identity theft by an illegal alien resulting in the loss of their jobs, ruined credit ratings and expenditure of thousands of dollars to clear their name. Instead of expressing any sympathy or remorse to this family victimized by someone with no legal right to be in this country, Gutierrez justified and defended the illegal alien identity thief's actions.
To Gutierrez, it is about one thing and one thing only: stealing what Americans have accumulated through hard work and sacrifice and redistributing it to his illegal alien brothers and sisters making him anathema to everything this country represents and those who fought, sacrificed and died protecting, defending and preserving our laws, values and way of life.
There is no freedom without the law. Remember our veterans whose sacrifices allow us to live in freedom.
