The Worst Governor in the US Award goes to...

    Texas Governor Rick Perry...

    Perry urges guest worker IDs
12:42 PM CST on Wednesday, December 6, 2006
    Associated Press
AUSTIN -- Emphasizing immigration reform far more than he did before
his re-election, Republican Gov. Rick Perry said Wednesday that a guest
worker program is needed for Mexican immigrants employed in the United
    States.
Federal authorities should work toward providing identification cards
for immigrant workers that allow them to freely cross the border, Perry
said. Such a program should emphasize the "rule of law" and not reward
those who break the law, he said.
"I'd a whole lot rather know who it is that crosses our border legally
to work than not know who it is that crosses our border illegally to
    work," Perry said.
The governor also said he disagrees with new state legislation
proposed by a fellow Republican, Rep. Leo Berman of Tyler, designed to
challenge the automatic citizenship of babies born in the United States to
    illegal immigrants.
"I think any of those types of legislation that create divisions are
bad. We need to look at ways to be bringing people together rather than
driving wedges between them," Perry said.
Perry's comments were much more tilted toward immigration reform than
were his speeches before his Nov. 7 re-election. In the campaign, as he
worked to drum up conservative support in all regions of Texas, he
mostly steered clear of discussing immigration reform proposals and instead
stressed the need to crack down on border crime.
He said at the time that immigration changes could only be debated
after border security is accomplished. Perry did say during the campaign
that he supported some type of guest worker program.
He went a step farther and offered more opinions Wednesday in an
Austin speech to the Texas Border Coalition, made up of mayors and other
public officials along the Texas-Mexico border.
"Our economy is greatly impacted by migrant workers. Let's create a
guest worker program that takes these workers off the black market and
that legitimizes their economic contributions without doing the same for
their citizenship," Perry said, to applause from coalition members.
Immigrants who are already in the country illegally should be given
"an expanded period of time in which to come to register" for a guest
worker program, he told news reporters later.

I can honestly say I never voted for this elitist, deaf, piece of hud of a governor, though I am a republican.

Well he was one of three that came to mind immediately. I guess I was 1/3 right or the author didn't want to deal with a tie.

Without control of the border what fool believes cards will work, identitiy theft will cease and we WILL know who these people are. Who believes these illegals will raise their hands in mass and announce they are here illegally. There are way too many benefits living under the radar and without scrutiny. Start REAL enforcement with employers and they will start to disappear just as they appeared.

All of the layers in our government are selling us out to self interested business and corporations. Start with the White House, Alberto Gonzalez, the Border Parol heads, ICE and the corruption within, the Governors, the Senators and Representatives, the judges who ignore the law, the complicit media and all the other open borders crowd standing between the Illegal Alien and the American Citizen. We have elected people and voted for those who have Foreigners and Illegals as their main concern and they are fighting for their protection and ability to further "rape" America and Americans.

But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

    Oh I'm so mad.

Now Perry is tied with George W. Bush as worst Governor.

The Texas Republicans put him up for re-election and they knew he was an OBL, despite their own platform that says Amnesty "no how, no way".

There it is folks, Rick Perry does not represent Texas, he is out to give us away to Mexico.

Did you fall for the campaign lies? Look at the Perry border cameras and the money he pulled out of the state cofferst to get re-elected, on the pretence that he was going to secure the border. LIAR!!!!!!!!!

Rick Perry is a LIAR, just like George Bush.

Tyrant - He didn't get my vote either, I threw it away. Neither did George Bush for that matter.

Perry Addresses Border Issues at Annual Conference

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today addressed the Texas Border Coalition annual legislative conference where he emphasized the need for the federal government to play a more effective role in border relations and border security, while Texas continues to explore all available means at the state-level.

“It is time Washington got one of the central messages of this election: when it comes to immigration and border security, get the job done,” Perry said. “We can have immigration reform that doesn’t compromise our security, and we can have security that doesn’t compromise our economy.”

Gov. Perry said the United States and Mexico are neighbors bound by a common economy, culture and future.

“Good neighbors do not foster fear and engage in divisive appeals, they seek solutions,” Perry said. “Washington needs to seek real solutions that protect our economy, that take migrant workers out of the shadows by giving then an ID and allowing them to cross freely, and that at the same time recognizes the rule of law and the importance of not rewarding those who break our laws.”

Gov. Perry recently attended the inauguration of Mexican President Felipe Calderon. He noted that while the spotlight is on the protests and seeming instability in Mexico, he believes history will show that this presidential election and the democratic transfer of power as a time when democracy in Mexico started to take root.

While immigration reform is a priority, Perry also stressed that there is no such thing as immigration reform without true border security.

“That’s why we have worked closely with border sheriffs to increase patrols, put more law enforcement boots on the ground and shut down drug and human smuggling operations that exploit our porous border at will,” Perry said. “The safety of our citizens remains a paramount concern of my administration.”

Gov. Perry launched Operation Rio Grande in February, sending strike teams of troopers, fixed-wing and rotary assets, water patrol teams, investigators, and new vehicles and equipment to the border. In an effort to continue anti-crime operations, Perry will ask the legislature for an additional $100 million during the upcoming legislative session for additional security along the border.

Perry said the border region faces many other challenges in addition to security, including the needs of colonias, education and healthcare.

“It is time to raise our sights when it comes to the health, wealth and well-being of the border region,” Perry said. “I want to be a partner in progress and prosperity for this vital region of our state. We can achieve what we conceive.”

I'd rather control the border and know everyone who is here is supposed to be here.

I'm so glad I didn't vote for this scum. Shame on Texas!

All the "security" in the world is not going to do a damn bit of good if you keep inviting illegal aliens in with the guest worker carrot!!

Bush, Perry and Hutchison can't seem to grasp this simple concept.

We will never get rid of the illegal alien problem if they don't stop inviting them.

Start leaving food on your front porch people and watch all the stray animals show up to feed off your invitation. Better yet, move to Grizzly country and pull that stupid stunt then maybe the lights will come on.

I would put Richardson right up there with Perry, and the only reason that a few others aren't tied for that distinction is that their states are not directly on the border and so their actions are not as magnified.

Yeah, now that the election is over, Perry is falling in lock step with Bush to complete the NAU agenda.

First the NAFTA superhighway, now open the flood gates... oops, border.
