Immigration fires up riders

And they're off.
Six motorcyclists left Colorado on Monday, kicking off a nine-week journey across the U.S. to Washington to protest illegal immigration.

The group is calling itself The 21st Century Paul Revere Ride. Just as Revere warned of approaching British troops during a midnight ride more than 200 years ago, the riders hope to warn "fellow patriots" of the dangers of open borders.

"Certainly, people are fired up," said retired police officer Howard Wooldridge, of Fort Worth, Texas.

Wooldridge, who is riding behind the motorcyclists in a Chevy truck hauling their gear, said U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo gave the send-off speech during a rally in Golden.

The group started its trip here because Colorado was a central meeting point for the riders.

The group made stops Monday in downtown Denver and Fort Collins before ending the day in Cheyenne, where they met local motorcyclists for another rally.

The riders - including Frosty Wooldridge, of Louisville, and Don McKee, of Boulder - will stay in local residents' homes for about one- third of their scheduled nights on the road. Otherwise they'll camp or get hotel rooms.

The group plans to visit 48 state capitols during the trip. Along the way the riders will also stop in cities from Seattle to Baton Rouge, La., to Montpelier, Vt.
