Activists to seek policy changes

Local border activists embarked yesterday on a cross-country caravan to Washington, D.C., in hopes of persuading lawmakers to abandon controversial border-enforcement legislation and to protest a political climate they believe has grown increasingly hostile toward immigrants.
Gathering at the border fence just east of the San Ysidro port of entry, caravan participants and several supporters held a brief news conference before setting off.
