KING CITY, Calif. -- Police confirmed two people have been killed after a shooting Tuesday morning along Jane Street.

The victims, a man and a woman were in a car when they were shot at, officers said. The shooting happened around 11:00 a.m. across the street from the KC Child Development Center.

After the woman was shot, she tried walking away from the car, then collapsed. Police found her on the ground. The man was found dead inside the car. The female victim was air-lifted to the hospital, but died when she arrived.

Investigators say the suspect is still on the loose. Police are going door-to-door to interview people to get more information about what happened.

Neighbors told Central Coast news the victims were a couple who had been living together in King City for a long time, but didn't live at the location of the shooting.
According to family, the victims had no enemies and are not sure why they would have been targeted. Both victims were not affiliated with gangs, they were migrant workers who were on their way to visit a relative, family members said.

The suspect's car is described as a light colored sedan. Police don't know how many people were in the car at this point.
