Committee wants Sheriff Arpaio out of Guadalupe

I bet they do! Sounds like just the kind of place he should be setting up checkpoints in!

Guadalupe should act quickly to replace the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the town’s police force for two decades, a residents’ committee recommends.

In a report released Wednesday night, the Guadalupe Public Safety Committee described the sheriff’s deputies as disinterested in protecting the tiny, mostly Hispanic population.

The findings are largely based on residents’ opinions about how well MCSO has served Guadalupe, which were unanimously negative.

“If anything, all were adamant that it is time for our council to seriously look at alternatives,â€

Great, I wonder if Guadalupe will spiral into the kind of hell hole violence we are seeing all over Mexico today once La Cosmic Raza takes the law enforcement reins?

[b]The agenda also included a vote on whether to strip Jimenez and Roy Perez, the vice mayor, of their titles. Guadalupe’s council decides those positions, not voters.

Rebecca Jimenez’s comments about the sheriff’s office have widened rifts between council members.

When I lived in a rural midwest area, the 'city' police forces were small and used a mutual aid agreement so officers in one town could assist officers in another town. Generally each town had 1 officer on duty per shift--except for a small town who had an officer 'on call'. City officers could assist deputies on county enforcement cases. Usually the sheriff's department would not enforce laws within a 'city's' jursidction unless assistance or back-up was requested. So am guessing it depends on agreements between enities.

The town I lived in had a poplation under 7000 and had 1 officer on duty per shift so if Guadalupe’s population is 6000 I would guess they would do the same.

Guadalupe, in addition to hiring officers, will have to purchase police vehicles, liability insurance, police equipment, benefits and insurance packages for the new police department and so forth--not an inexpensive undertaking. Unless they plan on building a jail and staffing it, they will have to make arrangements with Sheriff Joe or some city to house their prisoners so they still may have connections with the sheriff. I would guess that, if in Sheriff Joe's jail, the first thing that will happen is an immigration status check.

I'm interested in knowing, if Guadalupe forms a police department, if the applicants have to be U.S. citizens since following the law is apparently not a priority.
