01.31.06 - Reports that Homeland Security officials have been snooping around the Boyes Hot Springs area have many in the local Latino community fearful that immigration sweeps for undocumented workers are under way.
Buzz about a sweep began on Jan. 19, when vans that appeared to be marked with Homeland Security insignias were parked at the Fiesta Plaza shopping center along Highway 12. Soon, calls to La Luz Center - which provides support for the area Latino population - poured in from frightened community members saying that immigration officers were out questioning Latinos. One unconfirmed report even had officers taking two Hispanic men away in a van - neither of whom have been seen since, neighbors said.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)
