Suspected illegal immigrants held

MARQUETTE — Three suspected illegal immigrants were arrested in Marquette Tuesday after being investigated on an unrelated minor complaint.

According to the Marquette City Police Department, Marquette police officers made contact with the three men at about 4:30 p.m. about a complaint of inappropriate workplace behavior and discovered they were allegedly illegally working in the country.

The three men were working for a local roofing company through a non-local construction subcontractor, police said.

Eduardo Martinez Cardona, 20, of Mexico, Raul Israel Cardona Infante, 18, of Mexico, and Jorge Humberto Ramose Veliz, 22, of Honduras, were then issued detaining orders by the Sault Ste. Marie office of Immigration and Customs Services and lodged in the Marquette County Jail, police said.

They were expected to be picked up from the jail today by the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
