Inside Rockland: Irish to march in Washington this week

Inside Rockland: Irish to march in Washington this week

    By STAFF REPORT

    (Original publication: March 5, 2007)

The Irish are again marching in the nation's capitol expecting to make some headway with immigration reform. Thousands from all over the country are expected in Washington, D.C. this week to tell the country's leaders that change is needed.

They're pushing for passage of a Senate bill, known as Kennedy-McCain.

The event is sponsored by the Irish Lobby for Immigration Reform and is similar to other lobbies and Town Hall-style meetings the group has led since forming over a year ago.

Buses are leaving from Woodlawn, Queens, Brooklyn and Monroe at 4 a.m. Wednesday. Other contingents from Boston, Philadelphia and San Francisco will be attending the event, too.

Rockland residents wishing to secure a place on a bus may e-mail ilirnewyork@gmail.com or call Mary Brennan at 914-420-5894. For more information, log onto ILIR's Web site at www.irishlobbyusa.org.

    Isn't that a St. Patrick's day parade?

Won't change our mind. Illegal is illegal no matter how you slice it. Go back home and stand in line.
