U.S. Customs and Border Protection has awarded a contract worth as much as $45.7 million to Invincible Boat Company, of Opa Locka, FL, for the production of as many as 70 Coastal Interceptor Vessels, which will operate off the U.S. coastline and perform patrol, interdiction, special operations and port security missions.

Government Security News published an article about the upcoming procurement of these vessels on July 8, 2010.

Invincible Boat Company, which beat out nine other vessel manufacturers in the recent CBP competition, is better known for building high-speed, high-performance fishing boats than for supplying coastal interceptors to government agencies.

CBP’s contract, which was announced on Jan. 5, will be a firm fixed price, indefinite delivery / indefinite quantity (IDIQ) award, with a one-year base period and four one-year options. The initial order to Invincible was for $708,052, according to the award notice posted by CBP, which did not indicate precisely how many vessels that award covered.
