IRS Found 1.2 Million Cases of Identity Theft by Illegal Immigrants

The Internal Revenue Services documented over 1.2 million cases of illegal immigrants filing tax returns with illegitimate social security numbers in 2017, CNSNews.com reports.

"We identified 1,227,579 electronically filed tax returns, processed in FY 2017 through April 18, 2017, in which the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number on the return does not match the Social Security Number on the Form W-2," the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration told CNSNews.com

"Note that a Social Security Number may have been used on Form W-2 for more than one of these returns."

Between processing years 2011 and 2016, "the IRS placed the employment identity theft marker on 1,346,485 taxpayer accounts," according to a TIGTA report from last month.

When asked by CNSNews.com how many of these cases "did the IRS refer to federal law enforcement for criminal investigation and prosecution? How many did they not refer to law enforcement and why not?"

TIGTA responded: "We do not have this information."

"Over the last few years, IRS-Criminal Investigation prioritized its limited resources pursuing identity thieves who stole millions of identities from innocent taxpayers and applied for, and received, tax refunds based on those identities," TIGTA added in response to a question about successful prosecutions of employment identity theft.

"Additionally, based on how IRS-CI captures case-related information and how prosecutions are based (the federal violation utilized), it is not possible to ascertain the exact information for the question regarding how many cases the IRS pursued criminally where [Individual Tax Identification Numbers] holders utilized another individuals' [Social Security Number].

"To put it another way, in investigating the type of criminal activity that you inquired, IRS-CI, in addition to its traditional criminal tax statutes, would also likely utilize other statutes… which carry a more significant impact than the law cited in the 2004 TIGTA report regarding the fraudulent misuse of a social security number."

What are they going to do about it? All of these illegal aliens need to be deported. They hurt American citizens and destroy lives.

Illegal immigration encompasses all manner of criminal activity. It must be stopped. Greater efforts must be made to identify and deport the illegal aliens and fine businesses and jail employers.

When asked by CNSNews.com how many of these cases "did the IRS refer to federal law enforcement for criminal investigation and prosecution? How many did they not refer to law enforcement and why not?"

TIGTA responded: "We do not have this information."

Of course not!

Hand the information over to ICE and deport them on the spot!

Any illegal alien apprehended they need to do a check and see if they filed fraudulent IRS tax return, have taken welfare and food stamps. Add it ALL to the list of deportable offenses.

This is infuriating. 1.2 million people then have had identity theft to deal with and from what I hear it's very hard and time consuming to get out of. What will it take to clean this up? I've said before if politicians lost their jobs to illegals we wouldn't be in the mess we are so the same goes here, if more politicians and their families were affected by this identity theft something would be done. As usual, must be about the money somehow someway.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham blasted the IRS for turning a blind eye to 1.3 million cases of identity theft by illegal aliens, saying Monday night on “The Ingraham Angle” that this “mind-boggling” behavior “goes through right to the heart of the lawlessness” deeply entrenched within the federal government.

CNS News reported last week that the IRS fielded 1.3 million cases between 2011 and 2016 in which illegal immigrants received Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers (ITIN), “which are only given to people who are ineligible to work in the United States or receive Social Security numbers.”

After analyzing the data from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), CNS News discovered another 1.2 million cases in 2017 in which illegal immigrants filed tax returns with fabricated or stolen Social Security numbers.

“However, in response to inquiries from CNSNews.com, the IRS could not say if it had referred even one of these cases for criminal prosecution,” CNS News found.

“If you or I cross the IRS, we’re toast, let’s face it,” Ingraham said. “But illegal immigrants can steal IDs and then file for — and get — payments for child tax credits fraudulently and never get prosecuted. This goes through right to the heart of the lawlessness theme that we’re going to be hitting all week long on ‘The Ingraham Angle.'”

The TIGTA report was entitled “Most Employment Identity Theft Victims Have Not Been Notified That Their Identities Are Being Used by Others for Employment.” The report noted that “employment identity theft can cause a significant burden to innocent taxpayers, including the incorrect computation of taxes based on income that does not belong to them.”

And yet the IRS could not say whether any of the cases had been prosecuted, as CNS News found.

"This case of illegal aliens' filing tax returns with fake numbers, getting refunds with fake information, robbing the U.S. government of tax dollars, is mind-boggling. Yet it's happening without any prosecution," Ingraham said.

"The bottom line is there's document fraud. There is mail fraud. There's probably wire fraud. This is all fraudulent, and the IRS looks the other way. And I think a lot of it is politics," she said.

Ingraham blamed Democrats, in particular, for exhibiting what "seems to be this embrace of conflicts of interest, unethical behavior, rank bias, lawlessness — if it helps their political agenda."

This is why "nobody trusts the government today," Ingraham added.

Joseph Banister (pictured above), a former IRS investigator with his own history of tax controversies, told Ingraham that the IRS "is the original 'deep state' operation."

"They just don't follow the law. The American people have no idea how much fraud and corruption goes on inside the agency," Banister said. "I've got my wading boots ready for President [Donald] Trump to volunteer and go into the deepest, muckiest part of the swamp, and that's the IRS."

The vast majority of illegal aliens working in the U.S. are using fraudulent social security numbers to obtain employment. Some of the numbers belong to other people, and some are just made up with the possibility of being given to newborn children in the future. The Social Security Administration used to send out No Match letters to employers, but as E-verify isn't mandatory, most all of these were ignored. Most illegals are anything but "law abiding", as most all are committing crimes using fraudulent documents.
