JERUSALEM, Feb. 21 (UPI) The Israeli government is looking to attract more Jews to the country from the United States amid a declining immigration rate.

Israeli lawmakers say they are offering incentives to U.S. citizens willing to move to Israel as part of an effort to maintain the country's Jewish majority as the Arab minority are having children at a faster rate than the country's Jews, USA Today reported Wednesday.

The Jewish Agency, a government program designed to oversee immigration, works to help immigrants obtain jobs and is working together with nonprofit Nefesh B'Nefesh to offer grants of $3,000 to $10,000 for Jews looking to relocate to Israel. The agency said it is also working to streamline the paperwork necessary to move officially to Israel.

Immigration to Israel is the ultimate means to securing the future of the state of Israel and the Jewish people, said Daniel Ayalon, a former Israeli ambassador to the United States who is the co-chairman of Nefesh B ' Nefesh. Aryeh Eldad, an Israeli parliament member with the National Union Party, agreed that lowered immigration rates will no doubt have a negative effect on the demographic balance in the country.
