Regarding the higher cost for "essential foods" there is a way to combat that. Stop buying all the extra food and junk food people often buy.

My kids used to come home from school and I'm convinced on the way home they were "planning their snack menus" in their minds to gobble up while they jumped on the video games. They were eating us out of house and home. They would come home and go right to the kitchen and grab the Doritos, the Ritz Bitz, some ice cream and when they ran out they'd be screaming like stuck pigs so I'd oblige them and replenish their stock.

    Well, NOW I've change everything.

I tell them to each pick ONE SNACK FOR THE WEEK. If they eat it up in two days.....then they're OUT.

I also told them that if they come home very hungry....do what their Dad and I did when we were kids....make a PBJ sandwich.

It's working great!! You just have to put your foot down. They come home now and sometimes skip the kitchen AND the video games and start their homework.

P.S. They're even eating their vegetables at dinner. :P

    It's really strange.

So, the point of this is....cut down on the extra stuff.....you don't need it anyway.

Three cheers for you! YOur kids will be healthier, and you will have more money in your jeans - and the big guys (illegal employers) will have less of our money in theirs.

That's the only way it is going to work.

USlegal, I agree that junk food does drive your bill higher. I don't know if you read the list on the link on my post but alot of the things going up are staples. Milk, oranges, meat, chicken, grains, potatoes, these items are staples. Anymore it's getting so that the only things many people can afford is the cheaper priced junk foods.
I usually go the the grocery store once a week , and last Friday I came home and mentioned to my husband that even beans and rice have gone up and I usully buy these in bulk...I have a family of 4 and my food bill from January is up at least $20.00 more a week..

Food has been extremely high in NE Texas for at least a year.

When we were up there a lot of fresh veggies and fruits were more expensive than we paid in NYC. I could never explain that.

Yes, I do think staples are going up and it might not be a bad time to stock up if you can.

It is possible it is being manipulated, it is also possible a lot of crops got drowned this year - who knows. But we should all try very hard to not be at the mercy of these people.

Till up that expensive to maintain lawn, if you have one, and plant a fall garden, or make an inexpensive hotbed for winter greens.

Well I guess we will only by the necessities and the rest of them can go broke, I also buy only what is on sale, My kids use to laugh at how much food I have but I buy when it is on sale, so I don't have to pay full price, besides bread and milk. They are not laughing right now.

WHAT? I JUST GOT HOME FROM THE GROCERY STORE. I BROUGHT HOME FOUR BAGS OF GROCERIES. I DID NOT NOTICE ANY RISE IN PRICES FOR ANY OF THE ITEMS I BOUGHT? CHICKEN UP? NO IT ISNT. WELL I DIDNT BUY MANY VEGGIES AS I GROW SOME OF MY OWN. BUT I DID GET APPLES AND BANANAS AND SOME BELL PEPPER. OH AND SOME OF THOSE BABY CARROTS. PRICE WAS THE SAME.

Like everything else I'm sure this is just a ploy. The farmers are artificially inflating prices and complaining to their cronies in Washington so they all can say "see what happens when you deport our wonderful, selfless migrants."

I don't think they have gone up here - as they are already far too high for this area -

With the price of gasoline (diesel), we have to expect some rise in price - since just everything has to be transported from the some other country.

I don't think ours has changed much. I have noticed limes are getting less expensive. That usually means they are pandering to the illegals. That's a fact. STores that want to entice illegals usually have their limes pretty cheap. They buy limes by the big bags.

Actually, I think it may be a combination of a lot of things, but I think they are going to try to spin it that 'you are going to starve next year if you send the illegals home.'
