Police arrested a 15-year-old boy Sunday in the slaying of a Prairieville man, a news release says.

The boy, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, is accused in the Saturday shooting of Juan Gonzalez, police spokesman Sgt. Don Kelly said in the release.

Police suspect the juvenile entered the country illegally, Kelly said.

Gonzalez, 30, was shot at 2:15 a.m. Saturday in the 6000 block of Florida Boulevard, Kelly said.

The shooting occurred in the back seat of a vehicle in which both the suspect and victim were riding, Kelly said, adding that Gonzales and the juvenile were acquainted.

Patrol officers acted on a tip and arrested the juvenile without incident at 6:45 p.m. Sunday in BREC’s Red Oaks Park, 2098 Green Oaks Drive, Kelly said.

The teenager was placed in the Juvenile Detention Center on a count of second-degree murder, Kelly said.
