I say these two candidates are going to be sooooo sorry for their little partispation in LaRaza's conferrence.....

These people make one demand after another, give them an inch and they take a mile....it is almost like they can not stand other Americans being involved in our own election in our own country.

As for McCain he is going to find out it was a HUGE mistake because unless he gives them what they want he will alienate all of them and if he does give them what they want he is going to alienate alot of people who were willing to give him the benefit of the doubt...he is SCREWED!

One more thing, I think it will be wonderful for our side if LaRaza brings the immigration debate back into the elections,...this is exactly what these two idiots did not want Great Move guys!

"Make no mistake. This is about all of us," she said. "Most Latinos aren't immigrants. More than 80 percent of Hispanics in this country are U.S. citizens or legal residents. But, you can't tell that just by looking at us."
Either Janet is bad at math or she is outright lying with these figures. The estimated Hispanic population of the United States as of July 1, 2006, was 44.3 million. 80% of that number which Janet proclaims are US Citizens or legal residents would be 35.44 million. That means based on these numbers, only 8.86 million illegal invaders would be presently in this country, which is well below the underestimated 12 million figure that is used as a benchmark for illegals currently here. Few believe the number is 12 million. It's probably closer to 20 million, if not higher.

However, even is we use the conservative estimate of 12 million divided by the hispanic population of 2006, we come up with a number of 27% which represents the number of hispanics estimated to be illegal in in this country.

Granted this calculation is based upon 2006 stats, which means it's possible, rather likely, additional invaders have entered since (even more disturbing). Unfortunately, more anchors have been dropped as well. Still, her numbers do not jive with current figures or estimates from those who do not have a vested interest in underestimating this number as Janet certainly does.

In her closing speech, Ms. Murguia said they consider campaigning against illegal immigration the same as campaigning against immigrants and Hispanics in general.

"Make no mistake. This is about all of us," she said
How can she be so ignorant to what illegal immigration is doing to legal immigrants and Hispanics in general? La Raza's got it wrong and the group You Don't Speak for Me has it right!

    YOU DON'T SPEAK FOR ME

    Our Principles
We are Americans of Hispanic heritage who believe in America. We believe in the governmental institutions and laws that make this country the greatest in the world. It is because of this strong belief in the principles of freedom, individual liberties, the rule of law, and democracy that we formed You Don't Speak for Me!: American Hispanic Voices Speaking Out Against Illegal Immigration.

American Hispanic voices are being shouted down by the hate and race-directed rhetoric of those who do not appreciate the laws of our country. We of You Don't Speak for Me! give voice to those without a voice and those whose opposition to illegal immigration is drowned out by illegal aliens and their supporters marching in the streets demanding undeserved "rights" of U.S. citizens.

We are standing together to say to the those who come here illegally and those who would give amnesty to those who have broken our laws, you are wrong and you should not be claiming to speak for all American Hispanics. You Don't Speak for Me!

    Our principles are simple:

    All immigration should be legal
Illegal immigration hurts everyone, while carefully planned legal immigration helps. We believe in stopping illegal immigration and securing the national and economic future of our nation.

Illegal aliens from any country should never be rewarded with benefits or privileges

Becoming an American citizen is a unique and wonderful privilege. The legal route to becoming a citizen is not easy and requires patience and hard work. Those who break the law and come illegally should not be granted any benefits or privileges. No driver's license, no welfare benefits, no free health care, no in-state tuition - simply put . . . no state or federal benefits!

    No amnesty - no way!

Amnesty is rewarding people who break the law. From past experience we have learned that granting amnesty only leads to increased illegal immigration. Those here illegally are taking advantage of our compassion. We say No Amnesty-No Way!

Secure our borders now and fully enforce immigration laws

The best way to stop the flow of illegal immigration coming across our borders is to build a high security fence along the length of our southern border where the majority of illegal traffic takes place. We must also vigorously enforce our existing immigration laws. Local and state law enforcement should be free to enforce immigration laws. Employers who hire illegal workers should be heavily fined and if a pattern of practice is established their owners/corporate officers should be fined and jailed for the offenses and the corporate charter revoked. Identification documents must be limited and strong security measures like biometrics applied to documents of foreign workers. American citizens driver's licenses are now secured by the Real ID Act, non-citizens should be required to present documents not susceptible to fraud and counterfeit, and include biometric security measures - especially for work purposes.

    Learn and speak English

Learning the language of this country is the very least an immigrant can
do. Learn and speak English. Learn the history of this country. Learn the Constitution and civics. Learn and practice the principles that make America the greatest country in the world.

Thank you, MW. LA RAZA refereeing any debate on immigration would be like asking the KKK to referree debates on civil rights. Give me a break. For all the corporate shakedowns and fundraising and vitriol coming from La RAZA and all the organizations they have partnered with...they came up short....no amnesty was passed, no DREAM Act and Americans have woken up to their anti-American, divisive, ethno-supremacist, open borders, pro-illegal alien agenda to further the interests of mostly Mexican illegal aliens (while pretending to speak for Americans and all "Hispanics" in the U.S.).

There are lots of great comments here! Here's my two cents based on something nobody commented upon:

"While we appreciate the need for border enforcement and secure borders, we do believe you can do that while having broader reforms for the immigration system," she said.
I challenge her to give me one instance where "comprehensive reform" has succeeded in providing stable, predictable immigration. To date, there isn't a single country in the industrialized world that has been successful.

The same can be said for guest worker programs. No guest worker program in any nation has EVER successfully removed the workers after their tenure. This includes Chinese migrants in Japan and muslim migrants in Saudi Arabia, both of which were heavily monitored.

Even their choice of words, "We believe it's possible" infers that, to date, it has NEVER worked!

The president of the nation's largest Hispanic rights organization says the group will serve as referee for the immigration debate
The Race's idea of being a referee is to stifle debate and smear those who do not agree with their radical, open-borders, pro-amnesty agenda.

News flash to Janet: the majority of Americans reject your views no matter how much you try to deny this.

I have yet to see one who shuts up long enough to referee. LOL
