Laredo Sector Border Patrol rescues three illegal immigrants

FREER, TX -

A Border Patrol canine's alert led to the rescue of three undocumented immigrants.

The incident happened Thursday at the Freer Border Patrol Checkpoint located on Highway 59.

A group of Border Patrol agents encountered a white express van and questioned the driver about his immigration status.

A further search was prompted after a Border Patrol canine alerted agents to the presence of concealed humans and/or drugs inside the van.

Following a search of the van, Border Patrol agents found three undocumented immigrants hidden inside an aftermarket wooden cabinet.

Border Patrol agents say the three undocumented immigrants were determined to be from Mexico.

"The disregard for human life in which these persons were subjected to and the inhumane conditions that they were placed in demonstrates how callous and heartless these smugglers can be," said Laredo Sector Assistant Chief Patrol Agent Gabriel Acosta.

The driver, who agents say is an American citizen was arrested.

The Border Patrol asks that if anyone ever comes across suspicious activity to call 1-800-343-1994.
