I just watched a presentation by the foreign ministers of Latin American countries on CSPAN2.

This is the jist of all the presentations -

US has sole right to decide its immigration policies and has the right to enforce its border security laws ---- BUT any decisions should be taken bilaterally, and US should respect human rights (the rights of the immigrants). The COMPREHENSIVE immigration reform will take care of human trafficking and exploitation of immigrant labor.

Does anyone see the talking from both sides of their mouths. There was no explanation of what they mean by comprehensive reform. But it is not hard to see what they mean - amnesty to illegal immigrants, and their influence in deciding how many are legally allowed to come.

I saw the representatives of Mexico, El Salvador, Colombia, Ecuador, Nicaragua - and could not watch any more. This forum was organised by Migration Policy Institute.
