Latino and Minutemen Have Immigration Radio Duel

(KUTV) Latinos and Minutemen will hold countermarches on immigration Sunday afternoon. Friday both sides are dueling on radio to get their supporters out.

2News Rod Decker has more from Washington Square where the march will begin.

The Latinos say they'll have thousands of marchers. They'll march from here up to the capitol and back. Both sides agree the issues are important.

At Exitos radio, hosts including Tony Yapias are talking fast to get supporters to the big Sunday march. They say they'll have a turnout of thousands.

“I think it will be the biggest march Utah will ever see by an ethnic community,” said Tony Yapias of Radio 1550.

Yapias notes some callers want a Latino strike on Monday in addition to Sunday's March. Kids should stay out of school to protest as these kids did last week. Yapias says his group isn't supporting a strike. They want a law allowing illegals to stay in the United States and become citizens.

Tony Yapias, allows undocumented people to live and work in the United States.

Here at KTKK, they're talking up the Minuteman counter rally.

“We want to get it across that Americans have a voice in this as well,” said Alex Segura, Minuteman

Segura expects the anti-illegal minutemen will be outnumbered. He charges that some Latinos in LA predict riots if illegals are expelled.

One immigration bill was defeated on the Senate floor Friday. The Senate plans to take a recess and then return with another round of legislation.

Honestly, if they were so concerned about their illegal status then tell me what steps they have taking to legalize themselves other than protest in American Streets with Mexican Flags. If they want to work here legally then they have to go through the same process as everyone else. Geography doesn't gie them the right to violate our sovereignty. You would think if that they were so concerned with their legal status, they would save up as much as they could from working here, go back to their country where that kind of money goes a long way, and apply like everyone else. Instead they actually want us to change our laws so that they are no longer illegal.
