Democratic Assemblyman Tony Mendoza proposed legislation this week that would place an advisory measure on the ballot asking Californians whether the United States should grant longtime illegal immigrants a pathway to citizenship.
Assembly Bill 78 would apply to undocumented residents who have worked in the United States for at least five years, can speak English, have no felony convictions, and "have paid all taxes for which they are responsible."
Mendoza's bill declares that debate is raging over the nation's "broken immigration system" and that Americans want an overhaul that "rewards work, reunites families, restores the rule of law, reinforces our immigrant workers, and redeems the 'American Dream.'"
The Artesia Democrat hopes to qualify his measure for California's statewide primary election in June 2012.

You
You CAN NOT and MUST NOT reward Illegal entry into the United States any longer. Rewards will only guarantee the next, even more massive wave of illegal alien invaders into the U S...In order to combat Illegal Immigration you must say no and take away all benefits and rewards for this illegal activity.
Rewards just guarantee an even larger illegal alien invasion.

01-05-2011, 09:58 AM #4In January, 2011 the budget deficit (of California) has grown to $28 billion, the unemployment rate still sits at 12 percent and voters approved a ballot measure that would now also require voter approval for fee hikes. What are the big stories to unfold in 2011?
n January 2010 a panel discussed California's $20 billion deficit and 12 percent unemployment rate -- coupled with the mandated voter approval for tax hikes. Fifty-eight percent of New York audience members voted that "California is the first failed state."

First, there already is a pathway to citizenship. Illegals prefer to go around the procedures in place so they can skip line.
Second, there are reasons CA is in the toilet, starting with state government."A Nation of sheep will beget a government of Wolves" -Edward R. Murrow

This guy needs to end up being deported to a 3rd world country where he belongs.
Seriously though I know many will say if a state can deny citizenship a state should be able to grant it but its lunacy. They cannot grant citizenship that then could hold other states responsible for their actions. Any legislature like that needs to be tried for grand treason and recieve his just dessert.

I agree Syanis! Citizenship in the US involves the entire 50 states not just one.As Aristotle said, “Tolerance and apathy are the first virtue of a dying civilization.â€

I would expect nothing less
Sure Mendoza is pushing for some sort of reform. Look who he is representing. He was elected from the Latino vote in California. He is their poster child. The Latino Press thinks he is the new savior. The Senate knows Illegal is Illegal and no matter how long you have been here your still a criminal. Time hiding in this country does not count twards your getting your citizenship. Mendoza would be the first to try to stop any major steps to purge the california latino community of its illegal population. If the Feds said they were going to go door to door in search of illegals, Mendoza would be crying tears of blood and would be on every talk show that would hear him. What we the legal American public needs to do is let Mendoza and the community he represents, cry and shout, stamp their feet in a temper tantrum, but we need to put in office people who are going to keep the direction of NO AMNISTY of any kind, NO DREAM ACTS, anda stronger acting by both Federal and State Law Enforcement to increase the pressure on the illegals. Arrest them where they can be found, in work places, day labor gathering sites, in schools and in the neighborhoods throughout the nation. Its no profiling, Its called ENFORCING THE LAW. The American people need to work now for the future. Let the politicians know that we will not accept "one step back" on the issue of immigration and the enforcing of the immigration laws.
