    L.A. passes illegal alien day laborer mandate

    Update: L.A. passes illegal alien day laborer mandate

    By Michelle Malkin • August 14, 2008 03:12 PM

    Last week, I noted the most recent open-borders insanity in Los Angeles– a proposed ordinance requiring private retailers to set aside space for illegal alien day laborers. Well, the full city council has gone ahead and passed the rule…unanimously:

    The Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved an ordinance Wednesday requiring certain home improvement stores to develop plans for dealing with day laborers who congregate nearby in search of jobs.

    The ordinance mandates that proposed big-box stores obtain conditional-use permits, which could then require them to build day-labor centers with shelter, drinking water, bathrooms and trash cans.

    Councilman Bernard C. Parks, who first proposed the ordinance four years ago, said that this was just the first phase and that he planned to address existing home improvement stores next. He said the businesses needed to be held accountable for their role in attracting dayworkers.

    The vote prompted a standing ovation by dozens of day laborers in the council chambers. The move came after years of debate and negotiations among city leaders, Home Depot officials and dayworker advocates over who should be responsible for public safety and nuisance issues created by workers gathered in parking lots and on sidewalks and street corners.

    “This is an important day,â€

    The stores should move out of L.A so they wouldn't have to deal with this, but its all about the money!

    I certainly hope that Home Depot and Lowe's are looking at alternatives like not opening new stores until the council helps them foot the bill out of their own pockets.
    And it seems from this report that the council is blaming these stores for attracting day laborers--that is one of the most disjoined arguments I have heard in my life. Day laborers also hang out on street corners, is that the fault of the lamppost that they were attracted there?
    Perhaps it would be wiser to hire a security force of moonlighting cops and ICE agents. Maybe it would also be cheaper.

    It looks like the voters in Los Angeles have some serious thinking to do and consider voting out several City Council members who do not have the welfare of their fellow U.S. citizens at heart.
    Remember that*all Politicians work for us, the U.S. Taxpaying Citizens.* If they are not doing their jobs to your liking, FIRE THEM in the next elections.

    I just heard about this on http://www.Fark.com.

    The fark headline is;

    Quote; "Home Depot and other big-box stores in Los Angeles will have to provide shelter and bathrooms to day workers who loiter on their property waiting to be picked up for a job. Workers will still have to wipe their ass themselves, however"

    It is time for Home Depot and Lowes to pull their stores out of LA or at least close one down that has the most illegal aliens. This will take money out of spending budget. They could close the stores for a couple weeks and teach them the same lesson. I ralize this would hurt the working U.S. Citizens but most would stand behind this.

    I refuse to shop at either because they post in English & Spanish. Since I live in Alaska I think it should be a dialogue of Alaska Native language. Both assured me the are a diverse company The sad part is the duel language went up after we spend about $30,000 building our house.

    Hey BigLake13,

    I've been dreaming of going to Alaska since I guess I first heard about it. I may finally make it up there in a little more than a week from now. Not quit as far north as you are though.

    I'll be looking for a gold nugget that is to big to carry out and to big to just leave laying there. Actually I only have enough time planned to see a little of the Chugach National Forest and a little of the Denali State Park if everything goes well.

    StokeyBob

    P.S. The duel signs in the stores cheese me off also. The voting ballets here have so many languages I'm never sure if I've gotten it right in any one of the them!

    Hey StokeyBob;
    Just remember Anchorage is a sanctuary city; even though they deny it. They are very proud of 95 different languages being spoken in Anchorage School District.

    Also this is the coldest summer on record. I live about 60 miles north of Anchorage and it has rained almost every day. Not a lot of rain but not the norm. Bring warm clothes that you can layer. When the sun is out it gets hot but clouds are covering most of the time. It is a beautiful state and you will not want to leave.
    Enjoy your trip
