Los Angeles: Report: One-fourth of welfare payments go to il

Report: One-fourth of welfare payments go to illegals
    From wire service reports
    Posted: 03/10/2010 07:08:55 AM PST

Nearly one-quarter of state welfare payments and food stamps issued in Los Angeles County go to children whose parents are in the U.S. illegally, according to January figures released today.

Supervisor Mike Antonovich offered the statistics, generated by the county's Department of Public Social Services, to help make the case for enforcing the nation's borders, establishing health care clinics on the border with Mexico and reimbursing local governments for unfunded state and federal mandates, according to his press deputy, Tony Bell.

The numbers show that more than $50 million in CalWORKS benefits and food stamps for January went to children born in the United States whose parents are in the country without documentation. This represents approximately 23 percent of the total benefits under the state welfare and food stamp programs, Antonovich said.

"When you add this to $350 million for public safety and nearly $500 million for health care, the total cost for illegal immigrants to county taxpayers far exceeds $1 billion a year -- not including the millions of dollars for education," Antonovich said.

Shirley Christensen of the Department of Public Social Services said, "Our mission is to aid people who qualify and are eligible to receive benefits. We're carrying out the laws, federal laws."

Christensen emphasized that those receiving benefits were eligible for aid as U.S. citizens.

Christensen confirmed Antonovich's figures related to CalWORKS and food stamps.

The figures related to public safety and health care were calculated by the relevant county departments on an annual basis, according to Bell.

    Thanks for posting this Jean.

And this is occurring as teachers and government service workers are being laid off and furloughed all over So Cal and the rest of the state.

I guess this is like the question Aaron Russo posed to the IRS ... what laws? Show us the law that says children of illegal aliens born in the US are US citizens entitled to hand-outs from the US government or State governments under "laws, federal laws".

Just show us the LAW. Here is the federal law applicable:

"As of 2006[update], United States Federal law (8 U.S.C. § 1401) defines ten categories of person who are United States citizens from birth. According to that law the following acquire citizenship by jus soli:

    * "a person born in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof"
    * "a person born in the United States to a member of an Indian, Eskimo, Aleutian, or other aboriginal tribe" (see Indian Citizenship Act of 1924).
    * "a person of unknown parentage found in the United States while under the age of five years, until shown, prior to his attaining the age of twenty-one years, not to have been born in the United States"
    * "a person born in an outlying possession of the United States of parents one of whom is a citizen of the United States who has been physically present in the United States or one of its outlying possessions for a continuous period of one year at any time prior to the birth of such person"

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birthright ... of_America

Since the children of illegal aliens are not subject to our jurisdiction but are subject to the jurisdiction of their parents, who began handing out the rights of citizenship to these children? Did a President do it? Did a clerk in a social services office do it? Did a Governor do it? Did Social Security Administration do it? WHO started handing out benefits and services, rights and food stamps and health care and citizenship to the children of illegal aliens not subject to our jurisdiction? WHO made these decisions to hand out money, rights, privileges and citizenship to people who aren't subject to under our jurisdiction? Because Congress didn't it, the Constitution didn't do it, and I don't think any US President did it.

So who did it? We need to know when this started and who did it.

County Spends $600 Mil On Welfare For Illegal Immigrants

    Last Updated: Thu, 03/11/2010 - 3:14pm

For the second consecutive year taxpayers in a single U.S. county will dish out more than half a billion dollars just to cover the welfare and food-stamp costs of illegal immigrants.

Los Angeles County, the nation’s most populous, may be in the midst of a dire financial crisis but somehow there are plenty of funds for illegal aliens. In January alone, anchor babies born to the county’s illegal immigrants collected more than $50 million in welfare benefits. At that rate the cash-strapped county will pay around $600 million this year to provide illegal aliens’ offspring with food stamps and other welfare perks.

The exorbitant figure, revealed this week by a county supervisor, doesn’t even include the enormous cost of educating, medically treating or incarcerating illegal aliens in the sprawling county of about 10 million residents. Los Angeles County annually spends more than $1 billion for those combined services, including $500 million for healthcare and $350 million for public safety.

About a quarter of the county’s welfare and food stamp issuances go to parents who reside in the United States illegally and collect benefits for their anchor babies, according to the figures from the county’s Department of Social Services. In 2009 the tab ran $570 million and this year’s figure is expected to increase by several million dollars.

Illegal immigration continues to have a “catastrophic impact on Los Angeles County taxpayers,â€

The "Don't ask, don't tell" policies of NY and NYC were created to prevent such statistics from being collected here.

Given the facts that the data collecting is faulty and a good percentage of the people helping illegals in any situation are Hispanic, I would bet this figure is off by quite a bit. They come right out and say that there are no questions asked to determine if people are illegal. Whether it's in education or health care. Even England is asking new immigrants to prove they have health care so they don't end up on the dole. I'm surprised we didn't crash in the late 90's.

Go have a look at the applications for benefits they are worded to allow illegals these benefits. It is the fault of the government.
