Lou Dobbs Tonight
Thursday, July 26, 2007

Tonight, a federal judge struck down as unconstitutional a
local law in Hazleton, Pennsylvania that was designed to crack
down on illegal immigration. Today’s ruling deals a major blow
to similar laws passed by dozens of towns and cities across the
country. What are the ramifications of the decision?

Our reporters are on the scene, and we’ll have a full report
tonight. We'll also be joined by Mayor Barletta and the ACLU's
Vic Walczak for more reaction from Hazleton.

Chaos in the skies: June was the worst month in history for
delays and cancelled flights, and security lines have never
been longer. Yet travelers are not necessarily safer. There are
growing concerns about airlines repairing and inspecting their
aircraft in foreign airports where the FAA has no jurisdiction.
A sting in Albany found TSA workers allowed a bag of bomb parts
through security but stopped every single bottle of water.
Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport allowed airport workers, even
newspaper delivery workers, into secure areas without
screening. The air traffic control system is aging and can’t
keep up with record volumes. What is going on at the nation’s
airports? We’ll have a special report tonight.

Senators Max Baucus and Olympia Snowe introduced legislation
this week that would renew trade adjustment assistance for five
years and expand the program to include workers who are
currently excluded under the law. But the measure is facing
opposition in Congress by some who want to link TAA to renewal
of fast track authority. Another cheap political trick? Find
out tonight.

Your food safety: At the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee
hearing, several FDA employees testified about the problems and
shortcomings in the agency’s record on food safety. Margaret
Glavin FDA Assoc. Commissioner, sent a note to her staff that
she was deeply saddened by their comments and called it an
erroneous assessment. Congressmen Dingle and Stupak have
written a letter to the FDA protesting retaliation against
these employees. We’ll have more on that tonight.
