    Since they have better financing it is more effective to be a visible counter presence at their events.


    Selectmen are the equivalent of town council members.

    Sorry I didn't see this earlier. Aldermen, Selectmen, Councilmen... All the same. Titles of local elected officials. On the East Coast they have traditional/historic names for their city/town councilmen.
