San Francisco native to join Obama administration

President Obama has nominated John Trasvina to be assistant secretary for fair housing and equal opportunity at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Trasvina has served as president and general counsel at the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund since 2006. His impressive resume also includes special counsel for immigration-related unfair employment practices under President Clinton. He holds a bachelor's degree from Harvard and a law degree from Stanford.

And if that doesn't make you feel inadequate enough, he also is a member of the city's Elections Commission, president of the Harvard Club of San Francisco, and a board member of La Raza Lawyers Association, CORO of Northern California, the Lowell High School Alumni Association, the League of Women Voters and the Pacific Coast Immigration Museum.

For all your San Francisco trivia buffs, if Trasvina's new position -- pending Senate confirmation -- sounds familiar, it's because it's the same one held by Roberta Achtenberg from 1993 to 1995.

The supervisor quit the board to take the position, making her the first openly gay or lesbian official to win Senate confirmation to a federal position. The confirmation was temporarily stalled, however, by Sen. Jesse Helms who called her "a damn lesbian." She left Washington to return to San Francisco for an unsuccessful run at mayor.

Call your congressman. Is, somehow, fair opportunity in housing, specifically related to immigration? Why select someone from the most liberal district in the US? Why not someone with a broader background?

It makes me wonder too. Could it be because he will work toward finding housing for illegal aliens if Obama spreads his majic wand and gives them amnesty? I am sure there are more qualified people who should have been selected.

John Trasvina - president of the strongly pro-illegal immigration group MALDEF - has been nominated to the Obama administration. His title is "Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity, Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)". This follows the de-appointment of his co-worker Thomas Saenz to another post.

...manage the Fair Housing Assistance Program, administer the award and management of Fair Housing Initiatives Program grants, and propose fair housing legislation... ... conduct oversight of the Government-Sponsored Enterprises, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, to ensure consistency with the Fair Housing Act... ... work with private industry, fair-housing and community advocates on the promotion of voluntary fair housing compliance...

What that boils down to is multiple ways that Trasvina might be able to help fund groups that support illegal immigration (see the National Council of La Raza's "Raza Development Fund"). And, he might be in a position to help encourage illegal aliens and low-wage workers buy homes. He might also be in a position to fight against local ordinances such as the ones in Farmers Branch or Escondido that tried to prevent landlords from renting to illegal aliens (see this and this). And, he might be able to stock the lower levels of HUD with others who think like he does in order to carry on the tradition.

OMG this man is an idiot, seen him in the news before...Obama gets worse everyday....More home loans for illegals something tells me we are and have been buying them homes and it is not going to end with the bubble....this is a disaster.

I've seen that open borders idiot on Lou Dobbs. Why doesn't Obama just say he's giving our country away and get it over with.
