Man charged in high speed chase gets federal sentence for illegal re-entry

A driver who led police on a 29-mile chase for 20 minutes remains in the Miller County jail on a federal charge of illegally re-entering the United Statets.

Jesus Balbueana, 28, of El Dorado, Ark., was sentenced recently in the U.S. Western District Court in Texarkana to time served plus 10 days for being an alien who had previously been deported and re-entered the United States without the consent of the U.S. Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security.

Balbueana has been a federal prisoner since May 17 in the Miller County jail. He has been in jail on state charges since April 1.

Court-appointed attorney Jeff Harrelson, who represented Balbueana, said the man will serve the time in the Miller County jail. Then Balbueana will either be transferred to Little River County to face state charges or be deported by Immigration and Custom Enforcement.

Harrelson said Balbueana was denied entry into the U.S. in 1999 after providing false documentation at the check point in Brownsville, Texas.
