advertisementA young man died Tuesday afternoon when he slammed into the back of a Border Patrol vehicle that slowed down for cattle.
The collision occurred about 3:50 p.m. on the Tohono O’odham reservation, said TOPD Chief Joseph Delgado.
The agent had caught an illegal immigrant and was transporting him when he slowed down on Federal Route 19, near milepost 6.4, for cattle, officials said.
A young man in a vehicle behind the agent apparently did not see that the agent had slowed down and rear-ended the vehicle, Delgado said.
The driver — a tribal member — was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released Wednesday morning.
The agent and the illegal immigrant sustained minor injuries and were treated and released at a Sells hospital, the Border Patrol said.
