MISSION — Authorities have identified the man killed in a gunfight during a home invasion Wednesday night.

The homicide was reported about 8:45 p.m. Wednesday when an unidentified man arrived at Mission Medical Center with a gunshot wound to his arm, police said. Because of his wound, emergency crews transferred the man to McAllen Medical Center, where he later died.

That man has now been identified as Juan Ignacio Gonzalez, an illegal immigrant with previous violent crime arrests, according to a Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office news release.

Gonzalez is believed to have been one of several armed men who stormed into 25-year-old Angel Dominguez’s home, exchanging gunfire with him before fleeing the residence.

When investigators located and questioned Gonzalez's brother, Eduardo Mancias Gonzalez, he admitted to having been part of the home invasion and later disposing of his brother's gun.

Gonzalez was arrested and charged Friday with burglary of habitation with intent to commit a felony. The crime is a first degree felony that carries a prison term of five to 99 years. Gonzalez remained in the Hidalgo County Jail on Friday with a $1 million bond.

Investigators are still trying to identify the other men involved in the home invasion and to locate Dominguez.

Dominguez’s wife, Lisa Veronica Hernandez, who was home during the attack, told investigators she last saw him chasing the attackers into the street and running south on Mile 4 West Road.

Hernandez also told investigators that she has been in contact with her husband and he will not come in for questioning.

In the news release, Sheriff Trevino emphasized that the shooting of Gonzalez was justified and Dominguez was not wanted for murder.

However, Dominguez will be held accountable for possession of a firearm. As an illegal alien who has been deported multiple times, it is illegal for him to have a gun.

Investigators also found evidence of a marijuana smuggling operation on Dominguez’s property. Deputies uncovered equipment to compress and wrap bundles of marijuana in a shed beside his house.

He and his wife have different surnames and he has a weapon and drug processing equipment. I would bet he is under the age of 30 Candidate for the DREAM Act. I wonder if income from drugs is declared at the welfare office?

You couldn't convince me that she didn't know she was living in a dope house.
