Works for me much better than the wall in the pic.

I saw a picture of a ladder made out of construction re-bar that the boder patrol found hinging on the fence. They took long pieces of re-bar and welded 16 inch pieces across between 2 of them to form a crude ladder. They bent the ends over on a 90 degree angle so that it could be hung from the top of the fence and not slip off. I don't recall which state it was in so I can't figure out which news paper it was in right now. If I find it I'll post a link.

Border Patrol claiming success along local fence

The Border Patrol is claiming success along a formerly chaotic five-mile stretch of the border between the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa ports of entry, where fencing was raised and reinforced with razor-studded concertina wire.

Tuesday, agents in San Diego celebrated the completion of the wire project, begun last December and mostly finished about two months ago. According to the agency, both illegal-crossing arrests and assaults against agents in the area are down by more than 50 percent.

However, a growing number of apprehensions and assaults are now occurring west of the San Ysidro port of entry, and overall arrests in San Diego County continue to rise. And while smugglers are having a harder time leading people over the fence with flexible ladders as they once did, inventive ones are now using battery-powered saws to cut through it instead.

Still, “if you look at incremental gains of operational control, this is one piece,â€

First U.S.-Mexico fence: Fewer migrants, more violence

    . . . "We've got bodies," a voice crackles over James Jacques' walkie-talkie.
In the distance, a few people dressed in black jump from lightweight handmade ladders they used to scale the second layer of fencing. They run into a ditch, but agents catch them within seconds. A van pulls up, and they are loaded inside to be driven back to Mexico. . . .

. . . The floodlights click on, bathing the neighborhood in a blinding light. The helicopters return, clattering past. And the smugglers arrive with their ladders and blow torches and groups of people desperate to escape a fate similar to the one residents of Colonia Libertad long ago accepted. . .

The Fence is a deterrent, and Amnesty is a magnet.

JD2, I can't understand what point you're trying to make. My first comment was pointing out the fact they need to build better fences. With just a glance I knew the fence in the pic was easy to climb yet you claimed most people couldn't climb an 18' fence.

After that you just seem to try to defend what I consider a non-tenable premise. While Americans want a better fence system you seem to have taken the stance that any fence can be defeated (the old show me any fence a longer ladder can't get over BS) so why build a fence at all.

Yet you did mention the double fence that has had better success at deterrence?

    Point:

Double fence with razor wire on top works,

    but not 100%.

A ladder and a heavy blanket to throw over the razor wire and some people will still get over, some of the time.

People have even used blowtorches to cut holes big enough to walk through or even drive a truck through.

And then there are the tunnels, some of which have been as much as 90 feet below the surface.
