ANNAPOLIS -- A man charged with threatening in an e-mail to kill Gov. Martin O'Malley because he blames him for problems with illegal immigrants will be confined to his Baltimore County home until his trial date, a prosecutor said Friday.


Home detention was ordered for Walter Abbott, 44, after a psychiatrist's evaluation determined he was not "a real and present danger" to O'Malley, said Deputy Assistant State's Attorney Robin Coffin.

Abbott was being held on $2 million bail.

"His release is really conditioned that he go into this home detention," said Coffin, who also noted that Abbott had to turn over a handgun to authorities.

Abbott, a construction worker, was arrested Tuesday at his Parkville home, less than five hours after he sent an e-mail to the governor's official Web site threatening him with strangulation. Abbott included his name, address and phone number on the e-mail.

"He has sent several letters in the past with no response," the investigating office wrote in charging documents. "He felt sending this message would receive a response."

Abbott's wife, Linda, said her husband has been upset because he believes he has been losing work to illegal immigrants. She said the couple recently came to Annapolis to testify on legislation on the issue.

Abbott was charged with threatening a public official and conveying a threat, said Greg Shipley, a state police spokesman.

Linda Abbott said her husband did not mean to harm the governor.

"He only lashed out with words," she added, sobbing during a telephone interview. "He was just frustrated. He just wants to support his family."

"Our concern was about the threat to kill the governor, and our job is to protect the governor and the other officials whom we are assigned to protect," Shipley said. "We take these threats very seriously."

Shipley said it's not common for the governor to receive threats.

"He just wants to support his family."

An American citizen "just wanting to feed his family"? Whoda thunk?

So sad. He should not of sent that email.

He should follow all the legal, patriotic channels to protest and make sure our laws are enforced.

Prayers go out to all involved. The man wants to put food on his table and the illegal invasion is depriving him of this right as an American. Do the politicians and churches care about this American man and his family? Will the churches rush to give him free legal defense?

Probably going to being hearing more of these as frustrated Americans lose work to illegals and can no longer take care of their families in other words they are losing the American dream to illegals and visa holders from around the world. very sad!!

Once again the politicians and their contributors consider United States citizens only as units of labor and the sooner we become a Third World Country the better for their bottom line! Our elitist politicians and their elitist political contributors and now more and more American religious establishments will not be happy until they transform the United States into a Third World Country for most of our citizens while furnishing the Chamber of Commerce and all their Elitist Special Interest Groups with their supply of cheap labor. The politicians and their Elitist Contributors are providing benefits to the ILLEGALS on the backs of United States citizens through our assets such as the Education System, Social Security, and Health Care not to mention our National Security while privatizing the profits for themselves!

I am surprised there has been so few comments on the source news article in support of the citizen and against the elitist politician!!
