Maricopa Cty. Board votes to fund Arpaio's efforts

On Wednesday, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 in favor of renewing an immigration task force agreement with the state. The agreement will provide an estimated $2 million dollars for illegal immigration and gang enforcement in the 2009 fiscal year.

Supervisor Don Stapley expressed his desire to monitor how Sheriff Arpaio’s crime suppression patrols are affecting communities. He said he has no reason to deny the funding to the sheriffs office.

“I think using this money in partnership with the state, with the governor’s law enforcement agency, The Department of Public Safety, it will enhance the opportunity to eliminate the very serious criminal element that is at the root of the importation of illegal people into this community,â€
