MD Dream Act opponents UPDATE 7/8/2011
Dream Act opponents turn in first batch of signatures
By David Hill
The Washington Times
5:32 p.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2011
Organizers of a petition to repeal Maryland’s Dream Act turned in their first batch of signatures Tuesday, which they hope will be a sufficient step toward forcing a referendum on the controversial law.
Petitioners had until Tuesday to submit at least 18,579 valid voter signatures — one-third of the 55,736 due by June 30 — to the Maryland secretary of state’s office. If organizers meet both requirements, the law allowing many illegal immigrants to pay in-state college tuition would be suspended and put to a November 2012 statewide vote.
Organizers said they planned to turn in more than 40,000 signatures Tuesday night, though the signatures must still be validated by state election officials. The validation process must be completed by June 22, but election officials said it is unlikely to take that long.

Also, Saturday- CASA de Maryland, head honcho- Kim Propeak tried to intimidate signers of this petition at a Rockvile, Maryland festival. She was physcially inserting herself between the volunteers and the petiton signers. She was yelling that we were all "racists" and "haters" and she even told a naturalized citizen from Bangledesh - that was vounteering with the petitions that he was "anti immigrant and a racist."
Kim is "out there" and totally in love with the illegal alien/Marxist agenda.
Someone wanted to call the cops, but the GOP booth- (where the volunteers were) was "hosting" the volunteers for this event and teh GOP booth lady was "scared of CASA" and refused to let them call the police.
Finally a tall petitioner just kept running to block Kim Propeak from inserting herself into the middle.
There have been several instances of harrassment and instances where petitioners are told to leave State Property. Rights are being violated. I personally believe that there will be violence.
CASA de Maryland is totally outraged that we are doing so well. They are used to getting whatever they want in the Maryland General Assembly and are not used to being told "no" to anything. Believe me. Our current Governor loves illegal aliens.

Kim Propeak states that they are going to start fighting back. She is beside herself. Too bad! :P
Hey Kimmy! You aint' seen nuthin yet! This will set a precident and now disenfranchised Marylanders will be able to take other illegal alien bills to referendum. Thank goodness for the few decent politicians in our state like Del Neil Parrott!

PETITION DRIVE TO GET VOTER REFERENDUM ON THE 2012 MARYLAND BALLOT BEGINS TUESDAY!
LET CITIZENS DECIDE FATE OF IN-STATE COLLEGE TUITION FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT STUDENTS!
LEARN HOW YOU CAN BE AN ACTIVE PART OF THE PROCESS!
Washington County Delegate Neil Parrott, his assistant Kari Snyder & a team of volunteers, a host of organizations & concerned citizens across Maryland, in coordination with Baltimore County Delegate Pat McDonough, are leading the petition initiative.
A website for this Statewide Referendum Petition on In-State College Tuition for Illegal Immigrant Students is now up, but not completely running. That will change on Tuesday April 26, 2011.
www.mdpetitions.com
On the website you will find multiple instructions.
IT IS REALLY IMPORTANT THAT YOU FOLLOW ALL THE DIRECTIONS!
For example, you will be able to access Maryland voter rolls to see how you originally registered to vote. You will be able to download your basic voter information as well as your family members' information directly onto one form which you can print out, have all family members sign and submit by postal mail.
The big job, of course, is going to be getting volunteers out to various public and social events and asking registered voters to sign the petition, so please start thinking about upcoming events/dinners/meetings where large numbers of people are together. Democrats, Republicans, Independents, etc. As long they are registered voters they can sign the petition.
For those of you willing to work individually or in groups on county-wide teams, please contact
Kari Snyder at 410-774-0121 or e-mail MDpetitions@gmail.com
There can never be enough volunteers so please do your part to help make this referendum petition successful.
If you have a meeting coming up really soon, again contact Kari and get the 2 sided petition forms, they are available! (And don't forget, if you take a signature form to a meeting and have printed out/copied it yourself, you must have the language of the bill printed on the reverse side!).
If you are at a meeting where registered voters from different counties are gathered, please have a form for each county. Just write the name of the county on the top of the form and remember to keep voters signing the proper county form. Do not mix of voters from different counties on the same form.
Again, there are more and very specific instructions on how you gather signatures, witness those signatures, sign and certify the forms and turn in to Delegate Parrott. So please carefully read the instructions and get clarification from Kari if you have any questions.
Delegate Parrott has stated that in order to get on the official Maryland ballot for 2012, it is required to have 19,000 signatures by the last day of May 2011. But to account for the very real possibility that some signatures will be discarded for one reason or another, the goal is 38,000 for May 31st! Then for June 30, 2011 the total requirement is 56,000 but we will be shooting for 100,000 total signatures to be safe!

Talking Points - In-State Tuition for Illegal Immigrants
I. We the People, the Citizens of Maryland need to decide.
a. This issue is too important to be forced through by a handful of elected officials in Annapolis. The voting citizens of Maryland should have the opportunity to decide if our tax dollars will be used to subsidize the college education of illegal immigrant students.
b. The so-called Maryland Dream Act, sponsored by State Senator Victor Ramirez (D-PG County) and Delegate Anna Sol Gutierrez (D-Montgomery County) passed by a slim majority in both the House of Delegates and State Senate after heated debate. This radical legislation propels Maryland to the forefront of leading sanctuary states in the country.
c. There is vocal opposition to this legislation from Democrats, Republicans and Independents across the state.
II. We simply cannot afford it!
a. Granting In-State tuition will cost untold millions in funds the state must already borrow, adding to our growing budget deficit. The cost of this legislation will increase overtime as more illegal immigrant students and their families come to Maryland to take advantage of this taxpayer funded benefit.
b. Maryland already pays over $1.5 billion per year for the education, incarceration and emergency healthcare of illegal immigrants. When counties can't afford to pay teachers, fireman and librarians, construct new schools, repair roads and more, it is an insult to the hardworking taxpayers of this state to be forced to subsidize in-state tuition.
III. It's not rocket science! Illegal = against the law.
a. Webster's definition of Illegal: not according to or authorized by law: UNLAWFUL, ILLICIT; also : not sanctioned by official rules (as of a game).
b. Maryland's illegal immigrant population already has the benefit of being allowed to attend publicly financed colleges and universities, but at the higher out-of-state rate charged to citizens from other states. What is wrong with that?
c. The legislation offers no true enforcement mechanism to screen out those who will provide false documents and statements regarding Maryland state taxes paid, registration into the selective service and proof of filing an application to become a permanent resident.
IV. We, the Maryland tax-payers, will be supplementing the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition rates.
a. University of Maryland College Park tuition costs are $8,416 for in-state and $24,831 for out-of-state - that is a $16,415 difference that will be subsidized by Maryland tax-payer dollars. Plus the legislation will cut down on the number of students from other states attending Maryland institutions who pay out-of-state rates, eliminating the welcome and needed tuition payments they make to our state.
b. Many Marylanders, some unemployed and underemployed cannot afford to send their own children to college. These needy citizens should be taken care of before any illegal immigrant students. Next the supporters of in-state tuition, like in California, will be asking for scholarships and financial aid for these illegal immigrant students. Enough is enough!
V. We need to enforce our existing immigration laws.
a. Maryland, as a sanctuary state already provides free K-12 education, day laborer centers, welfare, food stamps, non-emergency medical and healthcare, housing and energy assistance and more to those without legal presence in our state. In-state tuition is yet another magnet to attract more illegal alien families to our communities.
b. Paying over 50% of the tuition costs for illegal aliens is a slap in the face to both new legal immigrants who have taken the time and effort to become lawful U.S. citizens, and to students from other states who attend a Maryland college, paying the full tuition cost.
VI. Many Maryland colleges are full to capacity.
a. Granting in-state rates to illegal aliens will overcrowd our already financially strapped community colleges and county budgets and financially handicap our four-year institutions.
b. Overall it's a bad investment of Maryland tax dollars as illegal immigrants graduating from Maryland colleges are not allowed to legally work, vote or obtain a drivers' license.
