TX-Rep. Hinojosa: "No Troops to Border"

Rep. Hinojosa: "No Troops to Border"

    Last Update: 3/01 7:21 pm

WESLACO - The federal government will not be sending any military troops to the border any time soon.

Today, U.S. Representative Ruben Hinojosa told CHANNEL 5 NEWS Congress would not be sending any National Guard or other troops.

He says Congress will instead continue to support the Merida initiative. It gives equipment and training to Mexican law enforcement agencies. Hinojosa said more than a billion dollars has already been given to Mexico. The Congressman adds the U.S. government is working closely with Mexican President Felipe Calderon to help local and federal police on the Mexican side.

Hinojosa says, "I can tell you that military forces are not trained to do the work of U.S. Border Patrol Agents and U.S. Customs Officers. Just loading a lot of military troops along the border would almost paralyze the crossing we enjoy."

Hinojosa said the cooperation between U.S. and Mexican government is the greatest effort ever against drug cartels.

Representatives from Border Patrol and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement will soon meet with Congress for an update on the violence along the border.

Democratic Representative Ruben Hinojosa has had the worst record when it comes to border security. Hinojosa has worked against allowing state and local law enforcement helping to reduce illegal immigration and putting in place workplace verification systems allowing employers to quickly verify the legal working status of their employees. This Representative's motto is "if you've made it in illegally you're safe".

Representative Ruben Hinojosa has voted in favor of amnesty for illegal aliens. He has also voted in favor of giving illegal aliens further rewards and other incentives to come such as in-state tuition, educational benefits, welfare and health care services. Hinojosa is in favor of the visa lottery and wants to continue chain migration. Hinojosa has also voted for increases in permanent and temporary foreign work visas such as the H1-B.

Of course what do you expect out of a progressive Democrat?

Wait a minute, let me get this straight. We can put troops on every other countries borders and secure them no problem, but we can't do the same here? Time to raise the BS flag on that one.

im not thinking that military on the border would be used at check points. im thinking they would be sitting in other areas that are known to have smugglers and illegals crossing

We put troops at borders around the world to help keep countries secure but leave our borders wide open. Human and drug trafficking have almost doubled in the past 10 years. Obviousely Homeland Security isnt doing the job to keep our nation safe. Putting troops on the border is not going to stop people that have the necessary papers from crossing back and forth. I like the idea.
